Timothy D. Stickney Goes Shakespeare in NYC

Timothy D. Stickney (RJ, OLTL), takes center stage as Othello, one of the greatest characters in the Shakespeare canon beginning March 1, 2002 at the Pantheon Theatre at 303 W. 42nd Street in NYC. Directed by Mark Edward Lang and presented by Africa Arts Theatre, a multi-ethnic company of fifteen brings to life the Shakespeare tale by examining Othello's role as an outcast. Sexual jealousy, racial politics and betrayal figure prominently in the story of a great general, a foreigner of color in a culture which does not fully accept him, who is brought down by the jealous rage of his ensign, Lago. Performed with an original score by Chris Hajian, the music incorporates African rhythms with a modern sensibility.

Stickney will be joined by a talented company of actors including Owen Thompson ("The Importance of Being Earnest") as Lago, Pauline Tully as Desdemona, and Brian Voeicker ("Richard III") as Cassio. Also in the cast are Sharron Bower, Carl Bradford, Javier Cobo, Caroline Ficksmen, Richard Kohn, John Marino, Mark Peters, Christopher G. Roberts, Charles J. Roby, Trey Teufal, and David Tornabene.

A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Stickney's stage work includes roles at the Public Theater ("The Taming of the Shrew" and "The Two Parts of Henry IV"), and the National Shakespeare Company ("Romeo and Juliet"). His film credits include "Green Card," "Presumed Innocent" (a film that I assisted Location Managed!), "Where the Heart Is," and "Three of Hearts," as well as a number of cable and television movies. He is best known to all of us as Randall James (RJ) Gannon on OLTL, earning him a 1996 Soap Opera Digest Award nomination for Outstanding Villain, and two Image Award nominations for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series.

"Othello" runs from March 1-16, 2002. Show times are Tuesday through Saturday at 8 PM, plus a Saturday matinee. Call 212 281-4880 for ticket info and matinee times. For a fresh look at Shakespeare's most poignant and timeless psychological drama, with a surprising amount of dark humor, check out Africa Arts Theater's production of "Othello," where betrayal, revenge, racial hatred, and madness lurk just below the surface and get to see Timothy D. Stickney like you've never seen him before!

Chicago's Andrea Evans, Star of Passions, Performs in The Vagina Monologues at The Apollo Theater in Chicago

The Chicago production of The Vagina Monologues will continue its open run at the Apollo Theater, 2540 N. Lincoln Ave. with veteran television actress and Chicago native Andrea Evans April 16 - 28. Produced locally by Rob Kolson, the production has broken all box office records at the Apollo.

In addition to open runs in Chicago and New York, The Vagina Monologues is touring in more than 20 U.S. cities and recently opened to rave reviews in London. The Vagina Monologues has been called "a bona fide phenomenon" by The New York Times; "simply spectacular - alternately funny, poetic and provocative" by Entertainment Weekly; "marvelous - one of the best shows in town" by the New York Daily News and "a work of art and a piece of cultural history" by Variety. The show also received critical acclaim in Chicago, resulting in sold-out houses during its extended run.

Andrea Evans is an Emmy Award-nominated actress who portrays Rebecca Hotchkiss in NBC's "Passions." A Chicago native, she began her acting career in Brian DePalma's "The Fury." Her role in the television mini-series "The Awakening Land" caught the attention of ABC casting executives, resulting in her long-term contract with the daytime hit "One Life to Live." She has also appeared in two CBS daytime series, "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "The Young and the Restless." She is active in many charities including Amnesty International, Global Relief, the Special Olympics and a variety of AIDS fundraising and research organizations. In her capacity as the City of Hope's Celebrity Ambassador for their Walks For Hope Against Breast Cancer, Evans has led the Chicago-area Walk for the past two years.

Playwright Eve Ensler created The Vagina Monologues by interviewing a diverse group of women about their vaginas, from an antique dealer in Long Island to a Bosnian refugee. The play that resulted is as hilarious as it is poignant, brazenly exploring the humor, power, pain, wisdom, outrage, mystery and excitement hidden in vaginas.

In Chicago the production has attracted world-class actresses including Loretta Swit of "M*A*S*H," Kim Fields of "The Facts of Life," Mayim Bialik of "Blossom," Leila Kenzle from "Mad About You" and Steppenwolf Theatre Ensemble members Amy Morton and Rondi Reed.

Kolson Creative Productions has also shown its commitment to the V-Day Fund, an umbrella organization that supports groups working to end violence against women. In Chicago, $10 of each full-price or group sale ticket sold to The Vagina Monologues is contributed to the V-Day Fund, raising more than $700,000 to date. A significant proportion of the V-Day funds has been donated to local organizations including the Chicago Foundation for Women, a non-for-profit foundation committed to promoting positive social change for women and girls.

The performance schedule for The Vagina Monologues is as follows: Tuesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 6 and 9 p.m. and Sundays at 3:30 and 7 p.m.

Tickets, priced from $24.75 through $55, are available at the Apollo Theater box office, 2540 N. Lincoln Ave., by calling the Apollo at 773.935.6100 or through Ticketmaster, 312.902.1500 and ticketmaster.com. Half-priced student rush tickets are available one hour prior to showtime, with valid student ID. For groups of 15 or more, call 312.472.6878. For more information call 773.935.6100 or visit apollochicago.com.

Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa to Make a Special Guest Appearance in Starr Manning's Animated Fantasy on OLTL

Starr Manning's (Kristen Alderson) imagination gets very lively on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, when "Live with Regis and Kelly's" very own Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa make a special guest appearance in her animated fantasy on the ABC Daytime drama "One Life to Live." Starr is the daughter of Llanview's resident bad boy, Todd Manning (Roger Howarth), and troublemaker Blair Cramer Manning (Kassie DePaiva). With parents like these, it's no wonder her imagination works overtime.

Starr's first animated fantasy aired on November 15, 2001, when she feared that she would literally be torn in two as her parents fought over her. But now that the Manning household has achieved its own special brand of happiness and that new baby Jack has arrived, Starr must fight to get back the attention that was once bestowed on her. She dreams that she makes an appearance on the popular morning show, "Live With Regis and Kelly," and Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa actually lend their voices to accompany the animated dream. This will mark Starr's seventh animated dream sequence to air on "One Life to Live."

The concept for the animated sequences was conceived by executive producer Gary Tomlin, along with head writers Lorraine Broderick and Chris Whitesell. Animator Holly Klein has worked closely with the "One Life to Live" production staff to create each of the fantasies. Among Ms. Klein's animation credits are Oxygen Television's animated show, "X Chromosome", Disney International and Nickelodeon's "Little Bill" and "Blues Clues."

Speaking of Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin...

Kevin Eubanks To Make Beautiful Music on DOOL

In yet another demonstration of network synergy, NBC's daytime drama Days of our Lives welcomes "Tonight Show" band leader Kevin Eubanks to the set for three days of guest appearances that will air in April.

Eubanks' appearance on Days of our Lives marks his daytime television debut. In addition to his already famous musical talents, Eubanks will be showcasing his acting skills as "Eubie Banks," front-man for a Las Vegas lounge act, who winds up aiding Jack Devereaux (played by Matthew Ashford) in his latest scheme.

Eubanks, one of the most prolific jazz guitarists in the country, has been a key member of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" band since the program premiered in May 1992, and he wrote the show's closing theme song, "Kevin's Country." He was officially named Music Director in April 1995.

In addition to his nightly appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," his additional television credits include "The Chris Isaak Show," "V.I.P." and "Muppets Tonight."

Eubanks has toured extensively and recorded with many top jazz artists, including Branford Marsalis. With his own group, Eubanks recorded "Opening Nights," featuring Marsalis and Buster Williams, and "Face to Face," featuring Dave Grusin and Ron Carter. His 1988 album, "Shadow Prophets," received more radio airplay than any other jazz recording that year. His most recent album, "Spiritalk 2, Revelations," a follow-up to last year's "Spirit Talk," is a collection of adventurous jazz pieces representing a significant surge of the music's evolution and the momentum of Eubank's career.

Eubanks also scored the HBO Pictures presentation, "Rebound," directed by "ER's" Eriq LaSalle and composed the score for the five-part PBS documentary series, "Black Westerners," which traces the story for African-American leaders, heroes and others who lived in the old West.

Kevin Eubank's first air-date is scheduled for April 15th.

ABC's "Shop The Soaps" Celebrates Valentine's Day

"Shop the Soaps" premiered new, romantic keepsake jewelry that was showcased on "All My Children," "One Life to Live" and "General Hospital" on Valentine's Day on ABC Daytime and Home Shopping Network (HSN). As integral parts of featured storylines, each piece of jewelry played a significant role in the romantic lives of key couples on each of the popular Daytime dramas.

On "All My Children," Mateo (Mark Consuelos) and Hayley's (Kelly Ripa) lives continue to be ripped apart by Proteus' deadly threat. While living in fear, Mateo showed his constant love and support by giving Hayley a necklace with their son Lorenzo's birthstone. Edmund Grey (John Callahan) also had something up his romantic sleeve for Valentine's Day: By enlisting the help of Phoebe (Ruth Warrick) and the children, he strove to give Brooke (Julia Barr) a most wonderful surprise, an engagement ring.

On "One Life to Live," new and true love were marked this Valentine's Day. Seth (Brandon Routh) surprised Jessica (Erin Torpey) with an expensive necklace, determined to make sure that she will always have the finer things in life. Meanwhile Ben (Mark Derwin) celebrated his love for Viki (Erika Slezak) when he gave her a beautiful double heart necklace that symbolized their own two hearts fitting perfectly together.

On "General Hospital," in a fantasy sequence, Sonny (Maurice Benard) finally gave Carly (Tamara Braun) what she so desperately wanted, and presented her with a pendant that is a symbol of her deepest desire. More dazzling than the passionate and romantic duet that Kristina (Jaime Ray Newman) and Ned (Wally Kurth) shared is an exquisite dangling heart necklace to complement her slinky velvet gown.

You will be able to purchase the featured jewelry through ABC.com and through a toll-free telephone number (800.769.ABC1). The items were also available on HSN throughout Valentine's Day. The merchandise was likewise supported through on-air promotional spots during the programs, as well as through targeted commerce programs on ABC.com. Select pieces will continue to be available all month long.
