Rules of Engagement – Being a True Femme Fatale… Soap style
Love them or hate them Femme Fatales make the soaps sizzle. What is a femme fatale? Well, let’s look at the definition: Femmes Fa•tales – A woman of great seductive charm who leads men into compromising or dangerous situations; An alluring or mysterious woman. To be clear they are not your typical bad girls…instead they’re equipped with a great survival instinct and a long memory. Warning: Never cross a Femme Fatale! Their motto is “Don’t get even…Get ahead…oh, and look great while you do it.”
Some delightful examples of the Femme Fatale are Kendall Hart (AMC), Sami Brady (DOOL), Ivy Winthrop Crane (Passions), Faith Rosco (GH) and probably one of the originals of daytime, Dorian Lord (OLTL). The Femme Fatale is the cornerstone of any good storyline. You always need a girl who is usually trying to get between the super couple, or who is scheming revenge. Granted, they sometimes have a warped sense of reality. But let’s face it. Femme Fatales make it all so much fun to watch! Ok, so maybe we can’t solve all our problems the way they do on daytime, but we can bring a pinch of their seductive style to our everyday life.
So let’s pick a girl and go. My favorite Femme Fatale (this month) is hands down Kendall Hart played by Alicia Minshew. Kendall’s style has certainly evolved over the years. Back when Sarah Michelle Gellar originated the role, Kendall was an awkward young girl, hell bent on revenge and her style was a cheaper copycat version of her mommy dearest, Erica Kane. At that time she was stuck between looking like the little girl lost and the vixen inside. Kendall was not an icon … yet. Enter an older more mature Kendall (Minshew), with so much grown up style. She charmed half of the eligible men in Pine Valley at one time or another with her seductive smile and style. Aidan, Ryan and even JR have had a thing for Kendall (in my opinion he still does).
Let’s check out what we can take away from the fashion rules of Kendall:
1. Good lingerie can get you out of any situation. Every woman should have something lacy that makes them feel special and sexy.
2. Show either leg or cleavage; not everything all at once. There is a fine line between looking sexy and looking slutty. Sure, Kendall wears some revealing things, but because she practices balance, it never crosses over.
3. Know your body type and wear what works for it. Minshew is not overly endowed, but she knows what is most flattering for her body and that allows her to work it. Embrace your body shape. Just repeat after me, “Love thy curves or lack there of.”
4. Never underestimate the power of bedroom hair. Kendal’s tousled curls are the ultimate in sex appeal. Even during the “straightening craze,” Kendal kept it real despite the trends. So embrace your hair and find a sexy style that works for you.

Look Like a Soap Star contributor, Danielle Orsino is a self-proclaimed fashion and beauty junkie. From mixing her own lipstick shades in high school to owning her own online boutique, she has seen it all. She always listened when people talked about what they loved and hated about products. Women told her about items or designers they found and what their closet was lacking. Guys asked about gift ideas for wives and daughters. While dishing out the advice, Orsino realized there was a bigger idea that could help everyone. She has always followed beauty and fashion and has been able to predict the next hot thing. But she didn’t want to get caught up in fads. She chose a bolder path by adding a more glamorous element; reminding women of being a little girl and playing dress up like in the old Hollywood movies or like a favorite soap diva. The ideas meshed and DramaQueenStyle.com was born!
