Soapdom's Soap Opera Baby Names
Don't you just love the names of soap opera characters? From Nash, Ridge, Tad and Coop to Bianca, Skye, Harley and Tabitha, soap opera writers have a field day when it comes to creating the monikers of their heros and heroines.
In encountering many a soap fan over the years, we've heard hundreds of stories about how favorite soaps and characters helped expectant mothers through their pregnancies, and even through some rather difficult deliveries. "I was in labor 48 hours! What got me through was watching General Hospital every day. I named my son Jason!"
Some fans just can't get enough of their favorite characters. "My mom just loved to watch Erica Kane on All My Children. When I was born, she named me Erica. Of course, Erica's now my favorite character, too!"
What do the actors think of their character names? Michael E. Knight (Tad, AMC) has been known to joke about his character name. "Tad sounds like a snack cracker," he says. "I'll have a bowl of tads and a glass of milk, please!" The Bold and the Beautiful's Antonio Sabato, Jr. (ex Dante) feels the name suited his character. "Dante is very much an Italian name. It’s strong and short enough that you’ll remember very quickly. I like it." See more soap opera actor comments on their character names here .
At Soapdom we give you the character name, its origin and meaning, and list some of the soap character's actual traits. We even compare character traits of characters with the same name who appear on different soaps. Like Bo Brady on DOOL, and Bo Buchanan on OLTL!

... I have always enjoyed this section. I check it out just for fun. It's so interesting to see how the actual character depicts the orgins of the character's name. And who knows? I may be pregnant one day soon... |

... I enjoyed reading about how the actors relate to their names or not. Never thought about the impact of that before but I suppose if a character has a whimpy name but is supposed to be a macho character, it might be hard for the actor to get past it. Very interesting. |

... Thanks for your comments. This section really grew from our meeting up with soap fans who revealed that they named their babies after favorite soap characters. A business a*sociate who works for a major interactive ad agency confessed that he and his sister were named after Jeff and Tara on All My Children. He thought he was alone -- until I told him to come check out Soapdom's Soap Opera Baby Names. He couldn't believe we devoted an entire section to this, but heck! Why not. One thing is certain. He now felt like part of a community! Did you name your child after a favorite soap character? Linda |
