Spencer Neville (Derrick, Days of our Lives) said that playing his character can best be described as "Having a blast!"
"I'm having the time of my life. It is a lot of fun doing the role, and I work with the greatest actors Casey Moss (JJ), Guy Wilson (Will), Christopher Sean (Paul), and Freddie Smith (Sonny)." Neville said. "I have to say, it is just is a joy."
Neville has been with the show about a year and said he was hired for five episodes. Then it went to ten and on and on. "I graduated from being a bell boy at a hotel to becoming a love interest," he said with a laugh.
Neville is referring to the popular gay storyline and he has come aboard as the so-called "troublemaker" in a real twisted love triangle.
"I am the trouble maker that is just like I'm there. My presence alone," Neville added. "Every scene I'm in has some angle or motive."
Neville is from Nashville, Tennessee., and sort of has his own soap opera story on his journey to Hollywood. "I sold my bike, gave up some items, bought a car and drove to Cheyenne and Denver to visit family and then continued to head West.
"I remember getting to Los Angeles. My first stop was at Santa Monica at the ocean," Neville reflects. "I got there and said, what the hell am I doing here? And well? Here I am. I got on Craig's list and found an apartment."
Neville landed his role on Days of our Lives and said the first day he was "scared as hell." But it was the fabulous cast and crew that made him welcome and helped him adjust.
"I can not tell you how great everyone is. However, in the beginning doing Days I was nervous. The show moves very fast and you need to be prepared," Neville said. "I remember being in the make-up chair and the lady said to me that I got one shot to do the scene and don't screw it up. Oh my God! No pressure there."
Neville took on the role of a very controversial storyline and said that back in the South things are a bit different and he did not know what the reaction would be of family and friends.
"Things are different there and the ways of thinking. There is much negativity on topics, but to my amazement the response has been wonderful," Neville said. "I was worried about Grandma, but I have her full support. For me personally, I believe love is love, it is not about race or gender, but being from the sticks it is a bit different. I'm glad Days was able to present such a great story in such a light."
Neville started in the business in Nashville and got his feet wet. Before Days of our Lives, he appeared in the Lifetime movie High School Exorcism and had a role on Parenthood.
Neville completed a movie called Amerigeddon starring in the role of Brandon Lane. The film is scheduled to be in theaters in the fall.
Neville graduated Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Bio Chemistry and didn't know what to do exactly, but said that his plans are to be in this business. He continues with acting classes, and said learning is important.
"I want to be a versatile actor. I really want to do movies," Neville said I have loved movies since a kid. I remember recreating Star Wars with costumes. I'm intrigued to transpire. I also love action films. My idol is Jake Gyllenhaal. I loved him in South Paw. I would also love to be in a sports drama film."
Soapdom wants to know if you have any thing to say to your fans? "Yes! I'm very grateful you watch Days and pay attention to my career. A huge Thank You, and I hope in the future to produce more work. Also thanks for the great reaction to the story. I have seen that viewers are already calling Paul and I 'Perrick'. I love it!"
