Inside the Bubble ~
DQ Gets Sudsy

Hi everyone! As you know by now, I usually write my articles about how to capture your favorite soap stars style, but this month I wanted to share my experience at Soap Talk. What does that have to do with style you ask? Well, I must admit it is a bit of self promotion, but I was at Soap Talk to show off my clothing line inspired by you guessed it – the daytime divas themselves!

For about five months now I have been contributing to makeovers at Soap Talk -- with the help of their very talented fashion expert JR Stewart. JR has dressed everyone from Nicole Kidman to Adrienne Leon.  She and I did the Carly makeover, which debuted my “Carly Trench coat;” and the Sam McCall Makeover, which showcased one of the Sam Tie tops from Amy Weis. During that time I was incubating my line and getting it ready -- for what I was not sure -- but low and behold Soap Opera Digest printed an article about my line and soon Soaps in Depth called, too. Finally, Soap Talk asked me to come out to LA and show my evening wear line to the fans.

JR and I worked closely and picked the best of the best which included, the Elizabeth dress (GH); the Maria dress (AMC); the Brook Lynn Skirt (GH by Amy Weis); the Jess/Tess Dress (OLTL);  the Emily dress (GH); and, finally the Greenlee dress (AMC).  Little did I know that not only was I debuting my line to the people that mattered most (the fans), but waiting in the wings off stage at Soap Talk was Rebecca Budig (Greenlee, AMC) and Bree Williamson (Jessica/Tess, OLTL).  Can we say pressure?

It was the TV debut of my line. I was a little stressed to begin with and now – add this star studded audience -- and I was in full panic mode. Then, it hit me. Dr. Troy and Miss Billie would be introducing the line.  Ok, scary. And then it was Showtime…

The dresses started to come out one by one and I cringed waiting for the audience’s reaction. With eyes closed, and fingers crossed, I prayed and prayed some more. And then I heard it.  The applause and Ty Treadway saying how wonderful the dresses were.

I took my walk onto the stage and looked out to the audience.  Wow they like it! And then Treadway shook my hand and gave me so many compliments, that I can’t remember all of them.

In a blink of an eye it was over. As I came off the stage, there in front of me was Rebecca Budig (Greenlee, AMC)!  Wow, I was shocked. She had been watching the segment. She looked happy and I smiled as I walked by (not wanting to over stay my welcome). I was greeted by praise from everyone.

Then, to my surprise, I was told to come into the ready room and bring the Greenlee Dress. I walked in and there was Bob Guiney and his lovely and talented wife, Rebecca “Greenlee” Budig (who had on the greatest little black dress and yes her make up was flawless! A true drama queen!)  She told me she loved the dress named in honor of her character.  I handed it to her as a gift and  she hugged me and said “thank you.”

Guiney was great as well (and yes, he is that nice in person). We took pictures and she told me how wonderful the fashion show was! “Oh thank god,” I thought, we spoke for a couple of minutes and I was so overjoyed!

Then, just as I thought it could not get any better, Guiney informed me that Bree “Jessica” Williamson was in make up.  He had already told her about the “Jess/Tess dress,” and now she waited to meet me and see the dress! (Thanks Bob!) I entered the room and she too was so cool.  I gave her the dress, we took pictures and she hugged me!  (Williamson had on a great little black t-shirt, and her make up was great)!

Next, it was off to Treadway’s dressing room. He is once again so sweet and genuine.  When DramaQueenStyle gets into men’s wear, my first project will be a Dr. Troy shirt!

So ladies my rules for the month are as follows:

1. Dreams come true if you really want them to!
2. Always look your best –you never know who you might meet!
3. Do what you love and you shall be rewarded!

Ok, so they are not really fashion rules, but I think they look good on everyone!

Danielle Orsino’s Drama Queen Design line debuts on SoapTalk on Wednesday, May 25, 2005. The dresses go on sale at DramaQueenStyle.com the same day.

The Designs!

From Left to Right: JR wears her signature “bling” shirt designed by JR and Orsino for the show and the official SoapTalk skirt designed by Orsino (Drama Queen Design); The Elizabeth Dress (Drama Queen Design); The Brook Lynn Skirt (by Amy Weis) with Femme Fatale tank top (with Kendal Hart quote on back, Drama Queen Design); The Greenlee Dress (Drama Queen Design); The Jess/Tess Dress (Drama Queen Design); and, The Maria Grey Dress  (Drama Queen Design)

Look Like a Soap Star contributor, Danielle Orsino is a self-proclaimed fashion and beauty junkie.  From mixing her own lipstick shades in high school to owning her own online boutique, she has seen it all. She always listened when people talked about what they loved and hated about products.  Women told her about items or designers they found and what their closet was lacking. Guys asked about gift ideas for wives and daughters.  While dishing out the advice, Orsino realized there was a bigger idea that could help everyone. She has always followed beauty and fashion and has been able to predict the next hot thing.  But she didn’t want to get caught up in fads.  She chose a bolder path by adding a more glamorous element; reminding women of being a little girl and playing dress up like in the old Hollywood movies or like a favorite soap diva. The ideas meshed and DramaQueenStyle.com was born!
