Rob Gorrie, an 18-year-old West Warwick, NJ native, was introduced to the nation on Friday as Nathan Bradley, a new character on "As the World Turns." According to Gorrie, the character of Nathan Bradley is "an all-American boy." He is a Harvard-bound, student council president and captain of the chess team. His role is to create friction between two existing characters on the soap - Maddie (Alexandra Chando) and Casey (Zach Roeriq). In his first appearance on Friday's episode, Bradley (Gorrie) did just that. "On Friday, they basically introduced my character to the viewers but I have bigger parts this week," Gorrie said. A student at NYU, Gorrie is studying communications at the Steinhardt School. He and his college cronies crowded around a TV on campus last Friday to watch his first ATWT episode. "I've seen myself on video before but to be on national television, that was quite an experience," Gorrie said. "It seemed almost surreal." The young actor is ready to juggle both his college education and his role as Nathan. "Acting is my passion and I would love to do more of it, but I will always keep my foot in the door when it comes to my education," Gorrie said. "I know it will be difficult to start my career while I am still in school but, for now, I am managing." This being his first real on-screen role, Gorrie said, it should be the "springboard for something even greater to come of it.I know that there is no guarantee in this business, but there is a comforting factor that comes with landing this role that lets me know that all that hard work I put in wasn't for nothing," Gorrie said. "I feel like I've made it, even if it is temporary, but that makes it even more motivating to get out there and try and book another show." The role of Nathan is recurring, but you can watch for him this week and again in February. (Contributed by CL)

ABC Daytime Lends a Helping Hand to the City of New Orleans In an effort to boost tourism and generate revenue for the city of New Orleans, ABC Daytime will participate in this year's Mardi Gras - the first of the city's annual celebrations since the devastation from Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. During Mardi Gras weekend, ABC Daytime will be featured on a float in the "Morpheus Krewe" parade, taking place on Friday, February 24 at 7:15 PM (the parade route will travel down St. Charles Avenue and up Canal Street). On Saturday, February 25, ABC Daytime will kick off the new Fun in the Sun tour with a fan event taking place in the French Quarter's Jackson Square from noon til 3 PM. Rounding out the weekend, ABC Daytime will host a private visit to the New Orleans Children's Hospital, bringing Mardi Gras celebrations to all its patients. All of these efforts are expected to raise national awareness for ongoing relief and to bring much needed business back to New Orleans. "This is a significant event because ABC and their Daytime stars are giving the tourism industry of New Orleans a vote of confidence," said Kim Priez, vice president of the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Mardi Gras is a celebration of the human spirit, and it is a vital economic engine, generating millions in direct tax revenues to our city, paying for services necessary for recovery and bringing displaced residents back home. We are excited for ABC to participate in the 150th Anniversary celebration of Mardi Gras and to bring the event to viewers nationwide. We appreciate ABC Daytime's efforts and leadership in supporting New Orleans recovery." ABC Daytime will provide additional awareness for continuous support to New Orleans by presenting a fictional depiction of a Mardi Gras ball, hosted by AMC's Erica Kane (Susan Lucci). This fictional ball will serve as a real-life fundraiser for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which assists victims of thousands of disasters across the country, including the continuing relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims. This effort will be integrated into the storyline, with Erica and the other residents of Pine Valley addressing her "New Beginnings" television audience, as well as AMC's real-life audience, giving information on how they can make donations during the airing of these interactive episodes. Those fans who make donations by February 12 will receive a thank you phone message from Susan Lucci. "We recognize the need for assistance in the ongoing recovery of New Orleans and have the ability and desire to provide our help," said Brian Frons, president, ABC Daytime. The weekend will feature appearances from AMC's Cady McClain (Dixie), Cameron Mathison (Ryan), Jacob Young (JR) and Alexa Havins; OLTL's Robin Strasser (Dorian), Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio), and Renee Goldsberry; and, GH's Kelly Monaco (Sam), Greg Vaughan (Lucky) and Ted King (Lorenzo Alcazar). As reported in Soapdom casting, All My Children has pulled a coup in tapping Broadway's "Jersey Boys" Christian Hoff in the recurring role of Marty, a Zach Slater casino henchman. Of his dual acting responsibilites, Hoff told Soapdom, "Taping AMC has been worked around my 'Jersey Boys' eight-show-a-week performance schedule with great skill and consideration by the AMC team. I am so excited to be a part of their award winning show. " How did Hoff -- a Broadway show star -- land the role on AMC? "After seeing my performance as Tommy DeVito in JB, Emmy Award winning casting director Judy Wilson called me with a character in mind. I tested for the role and afterward she shared a knowing look with her assistant and said 'Well, it only takes one.' Buzz is building that the headwriter at one soap might soon be searching for a new job. Apparently, the show runner is less than happy with the current storyline direction, and is preparing an apprentice to take over the writing reins. In a typical soap turn of events, however, the person now manning the head writing duties may actually be pleased, as according to the Buzz, said scribe has already made plans to walk. Robert Scorpio is on his way back to General Hospital for a brief return during February sweeps. Soap Opera Digest confirms the news in this week's issue in which the publication speaks directly to the soap's Head Writer Charles Pratt and Scorpio's portrayer, Tristan Rogers. "With the surprise hit of Noah Drake (Rick Springfield) returning, we're enjoying expanding our canvas with actors who are connected to the show," Pratt is quoted as saying in Digest. "I don't have too much to tell you," Rogers explains of his six week return. "To be honest, they've only given me a parking space and a dressing room, and that's as much as I've been told. In the last 13 years, this is a rumor which has surfaced like clockwork. The first words to my manager were, 'Stop wasting my time!' My manager said, 'It's for real. They want to do it.'" The big question that viewer will wait to have explained is Scorpio's alleged death following a boat explosion in 1992. The character even returned as an apparition in 1995 during daughter Robin's (Kimberly McCullough) AIDS trauma. Was she simply daydreaming? Stay tuned! (Contributed by LDB)

They may not be able to move forward." Bummer. (Contributed by LDB)
