Soap Opera Buzz for December 31, 2011

Kristen Alderson (Starr, One Life to Live)Happy New Year's Eve, all.  Some soap stars are celebrating in special ways. Nadia Bjorlin (ex Chole, Days of our Lives) is in Vegas.  I did New Year's in Vegas once. It is cold there -- compared to LA at least.  Our car died!  Thank goodness for AAA.

One Life to Live's Kristen Alderson (Starr) is at the movies as I type.  "I am seeing "New Year's Eve' on New Year's Eve. I'm cheesy ... and I'm proud of it lol," she just tweeted.

General Hospital's Steve Burton (Jason) tweeted, "Happy new years eve! Be safe and much luv. May all your dreams in 2012 come true!"

All My Children's JR Martinez (Dancing with the Star winner, 2011) is out shopping for his new baby.  "On #LastDayof2011 had a great breakfast & just left from looking at baby stores for our registries. Damn there's a lot of stuff but exciting," while Ali Sweeney (Sami, Days of our Lives) couldn't be more delighted with her kids on the cover with her for Prevention Magazine's February issue.

General Hospital's Rick Springfield is offering a discount on his webstore merchandise. He just tweeted, "10% off everything in the store (including sale merchandise) through midnight tonight. Use coupon code 2011LAST..."  Go to the Rick Springfield webstore here.

As the World Turn's Colleen Zenk posted this to her FB fans:  "Happy New Year to all my family, friends and fans across the years and miles... may you all have a safe, happy and healthy new year...much love and thanks to you all for your support and faith.... here's to a year of change and new life!!! xoxo"

As for yours truly, @soapdom is about to head out to Palm Desert on  #LastDayof2011.  Happy New Year!

Soap Opera Buzz for December 30, 2011

It's that time again. The mid-season finale of The Bay, The Series.  And boy, oh boy, are things really heating up in Bay City this week. Prepare yourself for one explosive cliff hanger of an ending!  In the words of series creator, Gregori J. Martin, "it's our biggest webisode yet!"  Not only that, Martin promises "much higher production values than the average daytime soap nowadays," and we gotta agree...

Don't miss the mid season finale of The Bay, the Series, airing now!

As the World Turns continues to air online at soapclassics!  From the folks at the distribution company:  "As our New Year's gift to you, please enjoy a free online New Year's Eve episode of As the World Turns from December 31, 1999!"  Happy New Year everyone.

Soap Opera Buzz for December 14, 2011

Soap Opera Buzz for December 9, 2011

Laura Wright (Carly, General Hospital)Soapdom couldn't be more delighted for General Hospital's Laura Wright whose dad recently underwent a 10-hr Whipple surgery to remove pancreatic cancer.  "Dad's doing great," Wright tweeted after the surgery.  She tweeted pretty much throughout the night during her dad's surgery, keeping fans apprised and thanking them for their thoughts and prayers.  She also couldn't thank the nursing staff enough.  "I really appreciate nurses," she tweeted. "I could never do it-- man it takes a special person!! These men and women rock!! Thx MUSC!" Soapdom continues to keep Wright and her family in our thoughts and prayers as dad continues his recovery.

If you haven't heard already, Oprah protege Nate Berkus is looking for you!  Yup. The call went out on Nate Berkus for soap opera fans to appear on The Nate Berkus Show.  If you live in the tri-state area of NY, NJ and CT, and you are a huge soap opera fan, seen every episode since the first day the soap aired, find yourself staying home to watch during the days or DVRing to watch at night, and idolize particular characters and follow their careers, than Berkus wants you.  Visit Nate Berkus to find out more and complete the required forms.

Soap Opera Buzz for December 6, 2011

Chrishell Strause (Amanda, All My Children) stars tonight on Body of ProofAll My Children's Chrishell Strause guest stars on tonight's episode of Body of Proof.  I will have to DVR it, as I've tickets to see Wicked in LA tonight, but I can't wait to watch Body of Proof when I get home after Wicked.  In true soap girl BFF fashion, Melissa Claire Egan (ex Annie, All My Children), currently starring on The Young and the Restless), tweeted this morning:  "Obviously you all MUST watch my girl Chrishell on "Body of Proof" tonight!!! 10 PM on ABC :)” Aww-yay!!!"

Days of our Lives' Melissa Reeves (Jenn) is so over the top delighted with the goings on in Salem.   She tweeted today from her dressing room:  "Just had fun scenes with jim (James Reynolds, Abd), peter (Reckell, Bo), mary beth (Evans), and james (Scott, EJ)! Whoa!! Lots happening;)!," and later, "Oops gotta go, back onstage, this time 4 scenes with shawn;) i work with great actors everyday;) love my job;)!!"

Cady McClain (Dixie, All My Children) is going scholarly with her soaps. She just purchased "The Survival of the Soap Opera," by Soapdom's own Sam Ford. (Ford blogged at Soapdom for about 18 months when he was studying media convergence at MIT a few years ago.  His blogs are still available online at Soapdom.)  Ford saw McClain's tweet about purchasing his book today, and he tweeted back:  "Maybe we can get that Cabot Motors endorsement we'd hoped for@De_Kosnik."

As many of you may have heard, there are rumors flying that Bree Williamson (Jessica/Tess, One Life to Live), is headed to General Hospital.  That's why she dyed her hair a darker color.  Unfortunately, today Williamson tweeted that the rumors just ain't so.  "...only person I'm 'in talks' with is my son about a diaper change... And the deal stinks."

All My Children's Dancing with the Stars wiinner, JR Martinez tweeted some words of wisdom this morning:  "#random thought for #ladies .Just because a man brings the dough doesn't mean he should get the cookie. Make em respect it & work for it!!!"

Soap Opera Buzz for December 5, 2011

Brandon Barish (Johnny, General Hospital)

Susan Lucci (Erica, All My Children) just tweeted: "I wonder now with so many millions of fans, if the networks would reconsider bringing All My Children back!!"  Ah yes. The million dollar question.  Susan, you've got our vote!

Congratulations to General Hospital's Brandon Barrish (Johnny), who tweeted his engagement to his girlfriend Natalie Hall (ex Colby, All My Children).  He even tweeted a picture of her wearing the ring!

More kudos in order for a former All My Children star.  Denise Vasi  (Randi) has just landed a role on the cable series, Single Ladies, on VH1.  She will take over the leading lady duties, according to Deadline, as the former star, Stacey Dash left after the first season. You will see Vasi in the role of Rachel when Single Ladies premiers for season two in 2012.

Inspired by watching a batch of Todd and Blair videos on YouTube, Kassie dePaiva (Blair, One Life to Live) has just tweeted that she has added a cool feature to her website.  "We've started a new 'T&B Memory Lane' section on my website. We'll be adding a new video with my comments each Monday. " How cool is that?  Todd and Blair fans you can check out Kassie dePaiva's Todd and Blair video picks with her comments here.

Agnes Nixon (c) Kathy Hutchins

The soap opera icon, Agnes Nixon, creator of All My Children and One Life to Live, is heading back to college.  Harvard, no less. She has been invited to the ivy leaguer as the Harvard Foundation's Artist in Residence.  "The students and faculty of the Harvard Foundation are honored to have Ms. Nixon come to Harvard University where her work is grately admired and respected," S. Allen Counter, director of the Harvard Foundation and professor of neurlogy at Harvard Medical School, said in a statement.  "As a revolutionary force in television, Ms. Nixon not only defined a genre, but also helped to enact important social change in the entertainment industry by indroducing social issues and characters of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds into her shows.  We look forward to having Ms. Nixon share her artistic experiences and outstanding accomplishments with the Harvard community."  If any of you All My Children and One Life to LIve soap fans live in or around the Boston area, try to participate in the open-to-the-public session in which students will interview Nixon before a live audience.  The event takes place December 6th at 4 PM in the Farkas Hall theatre on the Harvard campus.

Soap Opera Buzz for December 4, 2011

Cameron Mathison (Ryan, All My Children)Cameron Mathison (Ryan, All My Children) has landed a guest-starring role on Desperate Housewives.  Although he hasn't shared exactly what his charecter will get enbroiled in, he did tweet this on Friday: "Back working at Desperate Housewives today. Doing lots of pushups before my scene. That's all I'm saying:)"  And can  you say, shirtless sixpack?  Stay tuned.

Following in the footsteps of castmates Farah Fath (Gigi/Stacey) and JP Lavoisier (Rex) of One Life to Live, Kristen Alderson (Starr) and her family have relocated to Los Angeles.  Hey, pilot season is fast approaching, and with hopes of One Life to Live heading online dashed, actors are making lemonade from lemons. We wish Alderson the best.

For those of you who may not know, General Hospital's Laura Wright (Carly) is also now a vinter.  Yup, she and her husband opened Standing Sun Wines in Santa Barbara county.  And word is, the vintage couldn't be more smooth.  Plus, Wright tweeted today the launch of new products, Standing Sun Coffee, Tea and Chocolates.  To find out more about Standing Sun, visit and sign up for the newsletter.  Tell Laura Soapdom sent you! :o)

Molly Burnett (Melanie), Casey Deidrick (Chad) Days of our Lives with Soapdom's Linda Marshall-Smith (c) SoapdomSoapdom has a bone to pick with Days of our Lives Casey Deidrick (Chad).  First of all, I will go on record saying we adore him.  That's me, by the way, your very own Soapdom QueenRuler, sandwiched between Casey and Molly Burnett (Melanie) at the Brady Pub set in the photo at right.  But I am a Gator. Yup. University of Florida all the way.  And today, Casey dissed one of the Gator's most famous football heros, Tim Tebow. Deidrick tweeted:  "Ha! Tebow is awful, sorry," in regard to today's Broncos/Vikings game.  Them's fighting words, Casey Deidrick!  And, guess what? Broncos won, thanks to Tebow coming through in the second half.  When it counts, he matters!  I am definitely going to have to straighten out Mr. Deidrick on this issue next time I see him!  GO TEBOW!

DOOL’s Rachel Melvin ~ Chelsea

Chelsea is no role model!  She’s Salem’s newest bad girl. The girl you love to hate, the daughter from hell. But for Rachel Melvin, who plays Chelsea Benson on Days of our Lives, it’s all in a “Day’s” work. She is loving every second of it, and taking it all in minute by minute.

“I am so excited to be playing this role, but I will take it step by step,” Melvin said. “No one knows the future, and let’s just say for now, I’m real happy.”
