Some great acting from secondary characters and Coop ends his relationship with Ashlee.

John Driscoll (Coop Cooper, Guiding Light)

I open this week’s column with a question. Is Harley really surprised? I mean come on, Cyrus is nothing but trouble in and out of love. Plus, karma has a way of coming back to get you. I’m glad to see Harley end her friendship with Cassie. It’s about time Cassie learns she can’t do and say whatever she likes just because she has endured some hardships and losses in life. Since Laura Wright exited the role of Cassie I have hated this character. What Cassie did by moving in on Josh when Reva was sick is just sickening. She walks around Springfield as the town martyr and I’m sick of it. Josh should leave her and do it soon. Has a man ever broke up with Cassie?

I’m not ready to see Josh and Reva back together if he and Cassie don’t make it. I am enjoying Reva’s life without Josh so he needs to be made to pay for having an affair with his sister-in-law by being alone for a while.

Maybe Harley will reflect on her recent past and know how Marina felt. Marina is not a favorite character of mine, but I did feel she and Cyrus were a good couple and loved each other. I never got the sincere love vibes from Harley and Cyrus. It would have been better if there was just an affair but Cyrus stayed with Marina.

Mallet and Marina doesn’t feel right to me. I like them as friends, but lovers not so much. In my mind Mallet and Dinah are destined to be together.

Okay, Guiding Light it is time to give us more Buzz. He is great and needs a major storyline and love interest. This is far out there but what about a Dinah and Buzz pairing. There has been some odd dialogue lately and they both need someone. It could be a fun relationship to watch grow, while upsetting many people in town.

Poor, poor Cyrus, he can’t catch a break. I just wrote a month ago that he needs to leave, but I actually feel sorry for him now. G not at all. It’s time to wrap this up in a tidy little package and ship it far away. Just looking at G creeps me out and his acting is worse.

Another soul I feel sorry for is Remy. I didn’t like him for years, but I have come around. Remy deserves love and a storyline of his own, instead of being everyone’s flunky. I’m glad the show didn’t let Natalia turn to Remy after Gus’ death.

The sorrow Remy portrayed Tuesday over not being there for Tammy before she died was excellent and heartfelt. If Remy’s portrayer had more moments like this to work with I think we could see a future major character. Unfortunately, Remy isn’t a good fighter. The fighting scene at CO2 was horrible. For now I am hoping for a Remy and Ava pairing if the show insists on keeping these two characters. An Ava fan I am not, but there is some hope with this new side of Remy. I get the impression they do truly love each other, even Ava’s feelings seem more genuine for Remy than Bill.

While on the subject of great acting from secondary characters, Ashlee exhibited some superb acting Tuesday. How dare Coop? Really, what harm is there in a little flirting? More importantly, Coop has the nerve to come down on Ashlee when he was just kissing Blake. No wonder coop can’t keep a decent girlfriend. Maybe he and Ava do deserve each other after all.

What has happened to Blake? A one time vixen turned pathetic hanger-oner is sad for the character and actress. Blake would have been a much better business mate for Dinah in the take-over of Spaulding. Her long history with the family would have made more sense than Bill’s motives.

Bill Lewis has turned into a gigantic dork! I know where the show is going, setting him up to be a pompous butt, for the big fall from grace but does he have to be so dorky? If I were Lizzie I wouldn’t want him anymore.

Not much else happening in Springfield I keep hoping for a pick me up but each week seems to be rather redundant. One last note I want to point out. I was really liking Reva’s hair until Friday. The straight bangs looked like Johnny Depp from Willy Wonka. Whoever was dressing hair that day needs to be fired.

Until next week Guiding Light fans keep your light shining as Springfield keeps theirs’ shining for us.
