"We are thrilled to announce that John Ingle has joined our cast in the role of Mickey Horton,” the spokesperson for Days of our Lives announced in an official statement on Friday, February 6, 2004. "Without doubt, this was one the most difficult re-casts in our history - a role we thought impossible to replace. We are honored that someone of John’s stature and talent would come to Salem. Our gain is certainly any other show’s loss! "
Soapdom first learned of the Days casting coup last Friday, January 30, 2004. Of the sudden show shift, Ingle states:
“Days was always the most important soap opera in my house, I grew up with my mother watching the show - she had the hots for Bob Anderson! (played by Mark Tapscott)," he divulged. "I know a lot of the cast here at Days and look forward to playing the multi-dimensional, more vulnerable character of Mickey. I felt welcomed even before I arrived on the set.”
The Days spokesperson continues, "our loyal fans will embrace and warmly welcome John, just as we have. "
General Hospital, the show that Ingle called home for many years, had just made headlines by first pink slipping Ingle, and then inviting him to continue in the role as Port Charles patriarch, Edward Quartermaine. GH does not have any official announcement regarding his switch now to Days.
Note to soaps: When you have a treasure, don't employ yoyo tactics at contract time. The yoyo may bounce back and hit you in the face.
