Hi Suds Buds:
Once again, this past weekend was jam packed with fun for soap fans. From ABC’s Super Soap Weekend West Part 2 at Disney’s California Adventure in Los Angeles with stars from General Hospital and Port Charles, to NBC Daytime’s participation in the Country Music Association’s (CMA) Fan Fair in Tennessee, it was soap stars galore. Fans traveled from all over the country to come to both LA and Tennessee to see their favorite soap stars, and as usual, the soap stars did not disappoint.
What’s really fun about CMA’s Fan Fair, is that stars from both Passions and Days of our Lives got to sing for the country music fans! Soapdom’s got the lowdown on the hoedown, plus, all the dish from the press room at Super Soap coming over the next week or so. Tons of photos. Tons of Inside the Bubble™ info. Stay tuned.
You may have noticed a new button banner on the left of Soapdom’s pages. We are proud to announce our association with Daytime Dolls, a show that dishes the soaps right on your computer screen. Soapdom’s “Inside the Bubble™” segment of Daytime Dolls provides the show its spoilers. For all the info on the co-hosts and the show itself, just click the button on the left. Then, watch Daytime Dolls right here at www.Soapdom.com!
With all the work we’ve been doing to get our content online for you guys, I haven’t had much time to even watch soaps this past week. Can you believe it? I know, I know. My bad. Usually, I keep the TV on in the office as I am working, and flip the stations to catch snippets of as many shows as I can during the week. Imagine trying to keep up with all ten soaps every week! Sometimes -- and this I am ashamed to admit -- storylines begin to blur and I am not sure what show is running what story. Which is either my poor attention span, or writing that just all melds together as one.
At Super Soap this past weekend, I had a delightful conversation with SoapCity Editor and Chief, Jason Bonderoff. Did you know that Jason was once editor at Soap Opera Digest and hired me for my first freelance writing assignment for soaps? That was in the mid 90’s. We spoke this past weekend about the state of storytelling on soaps, and we both had our complaints. Complaints notwithstanding, we both give tons of credit to the writers of soap opera. There is just so much to be considered for each and every storyline, each and every script. It’s mind boggling.
I also had the opportunity to meet the fan club presidents for the GH and PC fan clubs, Debbie, Debbie and Tawny. These dedicated women have been coordinating the behind the scenes of the GH fan weekend for over a decade. And the weekend is a whooping success year after year. This year’s event, held in late August, is already sold out! I am always in awe at the dedication of soap fans.
Before I sign off for this week, watch for the results of the 4th Annual Soapdom Cybby Awards. Did your favorites win? Check it out at www.Soapdom.com – coming soon!
