This week kicks off my summer vacation and to get ready for my family vacation I am making a vacation countdown calendar. Using whatever kind of colorful paper supplies and/or stickers I have lying around the house I am going to count off how many days from my last day of school until I leave for Disneyworld with my family. I’m going to use index cards with different Disney character stickers and colorful doodles and write a number on each card then stack them from highest to lowest, counting down. For me it will be 64 days, so I will make a card for each day numbered 1-64. With a single-hole punch I’m going to make a hole for hanging the cards on a hook. Punch one hole on each card, then unbend a large paperclip to make a hook. Slip all the cards onto the hook and attach to a decorated poster titled “Countdown to…………” Decorate your poster and hang it where the entire family can share in the countdown. Each day tear off the next card. If you have younger brothers and sisters make this a project you can all share in creating and enjoying.
The last day of school for me was also the weekend of Father’s Day so my recipe is going to be for my grandfather. I am going to make banana split s’mores. Using Oreo cookies scrape the cream from the center, gently without breaking your cookies. Place a slice of banana on one side then top with one square of a Hershey milk chocolate bar and two mini-marsh mellows, then top with other piece of cookie. You can make one or many by putting them together and placing them on a paper plate. Microwave for 30 seconds (longer if you are making multiple s’mores) and serve to your dad or grandfather. Make sure you make enough to share with the entire family because these are yummy!. For an extra special treat for your pops place your banana split s’mores on a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream.
