Here’s What Your Faves are Doing this Summer
Did you ever wonder how the stars spend their summertime off time? This is the first installment of a three-part series on who’s doing what for summer vacation. We cornered close to fifty soap celebs from coast to coast to find out. What’s your favorite star up to this summer?
Lorenzo Lamas (Hector Ramirez, B&B) -- “I’m going to be married July 16th and we only have two weeks off for B&B so we’re gonna go on our honeymoon, somewhere tropical where they speak English.”
July 19, 2005 Oh no! This just in. Looks like things did not turn out as planned for poor Lorenzo Lamas. What he hoped was going to be the most romantic weekend ever between he and fiance Barbara Moore, turned out to be a real downer. According to Page Six of today's NY Post, Lamas called off his Saturday wedding to the Playmate beauty in a huff after he allegedly caught his honey holding on a little too tight to a male stripper at her bachelorette party Friday evening. The Post printed a statement it received from Lamas via his agent: "Barbara and I would first like to thank our family and friends who have expressed concern at this time. It is comforting to have their love and support. The two of us have chosen to take different paths, but will continue to support each other in the spirit of the goodness and light that brought us together." Had the wedding march played, this would have been Lamas' fifth time at the altar. Instead, Lamas spent the day with his mother, Arlene Dahl and several of his six kids sunning at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Kathy Brier (Marcie, OLTL) – “I’m not a vacation person, I like to be adventurous and go away. At the spur of the moment, if I have five days off, or three days off, I’ll get on a plane and go somewhere. I just came back from Florida. I went to Orlando and Disney World with my parents. My parents always bother me to go to Super Soap, but I say no. You cannot go to Super Soap. It is ridiculously hard to deal with enough, not to worry about your parents and are they having a good time? It’s fun but it’s hard work. Disney World was just a family vacation. I brought them because they always wanted to go.”
Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL) – “Just get away to the beach or another country.”
Martha Byrne (Lily, ATWT) -- “I go to the Jersey shore. I have a house down there. I go spring, summer, fall, no matter what time I have off. On the week-ends, I’ll go and I’ll feel like I’m in the tropics. I love it there so much. It’s my favorite place in the world.”
Kimberlin Brown (Sheila, Y&R, ex Dr. Paige Miller, OLTL) -- “We’re going to spend a lot of time out at Lake Mead, because we just bought a new boat for the summer.”
Shanelle Workman (Gabriela, B&B) -- “I’m going to Hawaii for a week with Bree Williamson from One Life to Live. We’re best friends.”
Jeff Branson (Jonathan Lavery, AMC) -- “I’m going to Chile in August. I have a week in June available to me and then on July 4th I’m going to San Diego for surf camp and then probably that week in June I’ll head out west.”
Dan Gauthier (Kevin Buchanan, OLTL) – “I’m actually not going on vacation this summer, but we went to the Bahamas last summer and we had a great time. We’re not doing vacation this summer.”
Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery, OLTL) – “Walt Disney World. We’re at the point now where our vacations have to be with our son and because of that we want to have the best of both worlds. Walt Disney World is a riot for Lucas and it’s got golf for me, a great spa for Vanessa, warm weather, pool…it’s got everything that we can enjoy and still be in the greatest amusement park of all time for kids.” It’s all about Lucas for the Mathison’s. And, his folks are down there too, so they can baby-sit.
Hillary B. Smith (Nora Buchanan, OLTL) – “I always go to Maine. I go up and hang out with my lobstermen friends. Just hang out for a couple of weeks in the real world.” She sneaks up for weekends, where she has a house.
Frank Dicopolous (Frank, GL) – “Every day’s a summer vacation for me and my family. We try to live life to the fullest and enjoy it and actually we believe in traveling as much as we can and we always take our children. My wife and I, to this date, have not taken our own private vacation. My son is ten and my daughter is seven. We just got back, we’ve done a whirlwind already. I was just down in W. Palm Beach and played in a golf tournament there and took the family, then went to Marco Island and raised funds for a film festival. My wife had my son in Italy for two weeks, part of it was spring break. We have a trip coming up where we’re going Sedona, Arizona and hopefully the fall, Greece. All the relatives on my Mom and Dad’s side are from Greece.”
Sharon Case (Sharon Collins Newman, Y&R) -- “I’m not taking a vacation. I’ll be working.”
Ilene Kristen (Roxy, OLTL) – “I’m not a vacation person (but) I’m thinking of actually going to Europe this summer. Paris, then the south of France because my cousin had a place she’s renting, and to Italy. I don’t know how I’m going to do it. Then stopping off in Holland, I’ve always wanted to go to Amsterdam.”
Tonya Pinkins (Livia Frye Cudahy, AMC) -- “I’m going to play a lot. I’m probably going to go Jamaica, North Carolina, and maybe Brazil.”
Bree Williamson (Jessica Buchanan, OLTL) -- “What vacation?”
Jacob Young (JR Chandler, AMC), “I was thinking maybe going down to Sydney, Australia, maybe Melbourne.”
