A veteran of daytime television Melissa Archer, who now plays Serena Mason on Days of our Lives, said that playing the role is just another day and it's just going to work.
Archer played Natalie Buchanan on One Life To Live for ten years until the show was cancelled in 2011. She then switched to the now defunct online version.
"I look at this job as going to work," Archer said. "I love what I do. Serena is so much fun, and she has a lot going for her. She does many things and is sort of interested in herself."
Archer admitted that she didn't know much about the character before taking the role. "I didn't! My rep got a call from the Powers That Be over at Days, and the rest is history," she said. "I had no audition and just came right in. I will say that the scenes I'm in are a lot of fun, and I really love portraying her."
Archer also said that she just came in and did her thing (acting). She thought it would be fun to get back in the swing of things and get all gussied up with hair, makeup, and wardrobe.
When asked to compare Days of our Lives to her work on One Life to Live, Archer said there is not much difference in the two shows -- other than being taped on different coasts, Thankfully, moving to Los Angeles was no big deal for Archer, as she lived in LA before. She jokingly said that she does not miss the East Coast and the winter weather.
"I mean the shows are similar in format -- they are soaps. The only difference is the way they block and tape and the countdown is different, but other than that ,everything is very familiar to me."
Archer said that coming on the set and seeing an old One Life To Live vet like Kassie dePaiva recently, they shared a scene, where the Days writers' did a superb job with a line saying, 'Don't I know you from somewhere?' and Archer's answer was 'I think from a different place and time,' a wonderful private joke for every One Life to Live fan, who knew exactly what they were talking about.
"I'm am thrilled the way Serena is written. I want her to remain genuine, but yet strong like she is," admitted Archer.
She went on to say that in all her years doing daytime drama, the only changes she sees is there are more commercials and the scenes seem to move quicker. Like at one time, "I always heard that if you missed the show, you can always pick up. Well!, today the scenes move quicker and every episode tells a lot."
Archer is so excited to be a part of Days of our Lives, especially with the show celebrating being on the air an amazing 50 years this coming November.
"Wow! I know isn't it something? I'm so excited for the show. I believe what has made Days so successful over the years is they still have core characters, and the show remains true to them, and that is what the audience loves."
Soapdom wants to know if you have any message to your many adoring fans? "Oh boy! I know you're out there. I have incredible fans. They have been with me through thick and thin. I thank you and keep watching."
Away from the set and the acting world, many may be surprised that Archer is quite the so called, "tech girl," and loves getting into the latest technology.
"I do! In fact, that is one of my hobbies. I'm into iPhones and iPads and I love fixing them. I'm also fascinated by the different software that is out. I am never far away with this technology. I love keeping up with the times."
