I love being able to roll out of bed, slip on a comfortable cotton dress and flip flops and head out the door. With the hot weather, sunny days and the beachy-feeling in the air, it’s the time of year when you can look cute and stylish without even trying.
How you ask? It is all about that perfect summer dress. I like to start my search for summer dresses in my favorite boutiques around my neighborhood. While most people think “boutique” = expensive, that is not always the case. Oftentimes, you can get great dresses that are in style for less money than you might pay at a big retailer. If nothing in the local haunts sparks my interest, I will head on over to the stand-bys Banana Republic, Gap or one of my favorites, Anthropologie. Right now, Anthropologie has A-line dresses that are wonderful for any body shape and have a flare that is very feminine and girlie.
Want to look hot, hot, hot? Let the sunshine in! Yellow is the way to go this summer season. There are all sorts of shades of yellow that are just right for your skin color. Warmer yellows are great for light skin tones, light hair and red heads. Light yellows are perfect for dark skin and dark hair. I never thought I would love yellow, but now there are so many shades to choose from, you are bound to find the right splash of color for summer.
Things to think about when going “dressy:”
** Working the skirt – What leading lady isn’t wearing a dress on the red carpet these days? Dresses give every body type a smooth, flattering silhouette and nothing shows off your legs better! All you have to do it open up your latest celebrity magazine to get tons of ideas about what would be the right color, cut and style for you.
** Think all day, every day – There are dresses for every occasion from running to the market to going on a date. For daytime fun, go for a cotton dress that you wear with flip flops or flats. For lunch with the ladies (ala our favorite fashion foursome from Sex In The City), wear a slightly dressier dress and belt it like Carrie. For dinner dates, a little black dress with sky high heels (see Gwyneth Paltrow!) is always a “do.” Many dresses can take you from day to night with just a change of accessories.
** Hide it all with chic style – Have a few figure flaws you are trying to hide? No problem! The best dress this summer is the Greek Goddess look. With an arm full of bangles and your floor-length, flowing dress, you will look gorgeous every time!
Summer Style -- Just for guys:
Hey Boys!! Looking for some “cool” things to wear to attract that summer crush? Well, this summer, the classics are back in style - fitted three button polo shirts in every color possible are the way to go. If you are a fan of Abercrombie & Fitch you are in luck, as they are sure to have all the styles and colors you are looking for. If the price isn’t right you can try J.Crew online where they sell 2 for $50.00 or $39.50 for one or Old Navy.
Ladies, if you want to help your guy look snazzy, a great pair of sneakers, a dressy or designer pair of jeans, three button polo and a blazer are what Justin Timberlake and John Mayer are wearing these days. But remember don’t let your let your guy’s jeans and sneakers be too old and worn. Leave the athletic sneakers in the garage in favor of the newer (not so smelly) fashions of these items that complete this look! Check out Zappos.com for great deals on footwear for men, women and children.
Just remember Dress the part and join in the summer fun!!
