Hi Suds Buds:

It wasn’t long ago when Americans took more pride in their appearance. On Sunday, my husband and I attended mass at our parish church.  Many famous people belong to this particular parish. Arnold Swartznagger, Maria Schreiver and family.  Loretta Swit (good old Hot Lips from the Mash TV show).  One day we saw Jimmy Smitts at church.

Whether celebrity or not, however, many people go to church these days in shorts, t-shirts and sneakers. Not that I should talk. I am guilty of this myself.  Still, I can’t help but question…

What happened to getting decked out in our Sunday Best?

Remember the days when we’d don pretty dresses and brand new shoes?  White gloves and dainty hats?  Little boys would sport suits and ties.  Gentlemen wore sports coats and crisp, pressed slacks, if not 3-piece suits. Doesn’t’ seem that long ago, and yet it seems like ages ago.  I went to Catholic school and we had to wear uniforms.  Even in the public highschool, however, kids had to wear respectably nice casual clothes.  Dresses, skirts and blouses, and jumpers for girls.  Jackets and ties for boys.

Today, it seems as if dress codes no longer exist. I am not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, it just is.  Is it just southern California, or is it nationwide?

On soap operas, on the other hand, it seems that no one ever dresses down.  No one ever appears in sweats and sneakers, unless they are in a brief scene at the local gym or health club.

On soaps, everyone is always in their designer best.  Not that I would seriously recommend wearing some of the outfits Susan Lucci as Erica Kane wears to work. As CEO of Enchantment Cosmetics, I would think she’d dress slightly more corporate while at the office, but then, costume design was never my strong suit.  Still, the character of Erica Kane is always flawless (although I am not that fond of her current retro ‘70’s” permed hair do).  Regardless, you would never catch someone like Erica in shorts and a tee shirt in church.  I don’t think you’d see Reva on Guiding Light or Marlena on DOOL in such attire either.  Rose on ATWT maybe.  LOL

What I am getting at here is that it might be fun sometimes to see our favorite soap characters in jeans and tees.  Just as it would be fun to see real folks don their Sunday Best and take a renewed pride in their appearance.

Past Blast

Days of our Lives Billy Flynn taking Chad to new heights

When Chad DiMeara returned to Salem, he certainly knew how to make an entrance. He pulled a gun on his brother. Well...wouldn't you if your brother slept with your girlfriend? Do you think he's back for revenge? Or are his plans to take over the DiMeara empire?

According to Billy Flynn, who plays Chad, "I'm out to get it all," he jokingly said. "I'm a DiMeara and I want what I have coming."

Flynn has been on the show only a few short weeks, but his acting talent and ability is really beginning to shine. Casey Deidrick, previously played Chad and Flynn is now out to make his mark by taking Chad to new heights.
