Hi Suds Buds:

Did any of you happen to catch the PAX network original movie starring Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, Y&R) and Lorenzo Lamas last Saturday night?  My husband and I happened upon it quite by surprise.  By such surprise, that I don’t even know the name of the movie – and we already tossed our TV Guide for last week!  We had been out and about running errands and shopping all day and had planned to go to the movies at night.  But we were dragging after all the chores and decided to stay in and catch a good movie on TV instead.  With network TV airing repeats and hard-to-watch (for me anyway) reality TV programs, we started flipping around the cable channels and came upon Melody Thomas Scott in this medical suspense, made-for-TV movie.

Here is the set up:  Scott plays a doctor with a specialty in bio organisms.  She teaches at a university and is happy to be going off for a much-needed vacation with her handsome young son.  She tells her students that if they need to reach her, they can do so at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it    Oh yes, the character’s name is Linda!  (No relation, LOL)  Linda and handsome-young-son head off to a remote island where an outbreak of a new viral organism with deadly consequences is about to enfold.  Young son falls in love immediately with the daughter of the innkeeper (Lamas) and Linda’s attraction to Lamas’ character is obvious.   But romance soon takes a back seat to the deadly virus spreading through the island.  The CDC in Atlanta is called in and eventually, Linda finds a cure, saves the lives of her son, Lamas’ daughter and most of the island, as well as preventing the virus from spreading offshore. This being the PAX network, the story was uplifting and it was as if God sent Linda specifically to this island at this time to find this cure.

It was so wonderful to see Scott in this role.  Despite a few reminders of Y&R’s Nikki, Scott made this character her own.  She was believable as a scientist, teacher, mother, and object of desire.  For a little low-budget cable movie, it was entertaining and as aforementioned, uplifting.

Soap stars should be considered and cast in prime time programming more frequently. As a fan of Days of our Lives, wouldn’t you tune into a movie of the week that starred Peter Reckell or Jason Cook?  As a fan of General Hospital wouldn’t you be interested to see Maurice Benard on in primetime?   Several years ago, one very good looking daytime star, with fairly well-honed acting skills, shared that he had a hard time getting cast in primetime for two reasons:  1) a daytime resume was a bit of a stigma to primetime producers at that time, and 2) he was too handsome to be a ‘character’ in primetime. He wasn’t a Dennis Franz, for example, so the thinking was, he would not be believable in NYPD Blue.”

But that was several years ago.  There does seem to be a shift in a more positive direction now.  This coming fall season, several soap actors have left the daytime world and landed primetime gigs.  Click Here.   (Although we are still not sure about Paul Leyden on LA Dragnet.  We know there is a casting shuffle going on there, but we are not sure who exactly has been cast as of this writing. We’ll keep you posted.)   We’d still like to see daytime actors who are still active on daytime get a shot on primetime.  I’d tune in to see my favorite daytime star in a completely new role on a nighttime program.  Wouldn’t you?

Days of our Lives Guy Wilson excited to be part of the 50th

Guy Wilson (Will, Days of our Lives) said the upcoming 50th anniversary in November is something that is incredible in the industry, and that he is so proud to be able to say that he is part of the canvas.

"Oh without a doubt! You know shows come and go, but to be here for 50 years? You know something is right!" Wilson said. "For me personally, this is a great career opportunity and to be able to work with some of the greatest actors. And what a thrill to be on something with such staying power. I'm excited."

Wilson added that he was thrilled to see many longtime veteran actors' returning to the show for the 50th anniversary and said that seeing them and working with them has been an amazing experience. "It will be big!"
