The Name Game!
Hi Suds Buds:
Actors have an interesting raison d’etre. In order for them to engage in their craft of choice, they must become two personalities. Their own real-life selves and the characters they portray. It must get confusing responding to names when called. I have seen many soap actors easily respond to their character’s name, even when out and about in public. Talk about having split-personalities! Especially for soap actors, as they can be on shows for years and years, maintaining this dual citizenship, if you will, of personality.
Which is why I find it very intriguing that many current and former soap actors and their soap characters bear the same first names! Let’s see if I can list a bunch as examples:
Aiden Turner (Aidan, AMC)
Austin Peck (Austin, DOOL)
Beth Chamberlain (Beth, GL)
Clint Ritchie (Clint, OLTL)
Rick Hearst (Ric, GH)
Sharon Case (Sharon, Y&R)
Who have I missed? There must be more, but its early Monday morning and I have yet to have my coffee. Anyway, the point being, these actors get a special bonus. They don’t have two different personas, at least not name-wise. They are the same name at work as they are at home, like most people. LOL. Bonus perk for them in their chosen profession!
Speaking of soap opera names, don’t forget to check into our Soap Opera Baby Names section. Even if you’re not expecting a newborn, it’s still fun to see how the name reflects the character, or vice versa! Plus, we have one section that compares many of the same names, but as they are used on different soaps! Fun to browse through. Check it out when you get the chance. You'll find it under "Exclusives" on the left-hand navigation.
Well, I am off to a meeting across town, so I’ll end this a tad early for now. But I’ll be back later with more info for this column. B&B fans, take special note. There'll will be some interesting info here for you! See you then!
In the meantime, if you remember any more soap characters that bear the same names as their real-life counterparts, let us know on the Criticize the Critic message board at www.Soapdom.com!
