Dear Suds Buds, How many times do you sit in front of your TV screen and comment to yourself (or aloud, depending on your frustration level) ? ?I could write this show!? How many times do you crave new blood in the writing departments of your favorite soaps? Well, now is your chance to make that declaration a reality for As the World Turns and Guiding Light! For the third time, Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc. will sponsor its story-writing contest for college students who aspire to a career in writing for daytime dramas. Announced by the company's Executive-in-Charge of Production, Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, contest winners will be awarded a trip to New York to meet with the writers, producers, and program executives of CBS' As the World Turns and Guiding Light."This contest is a unique and creative way for aspiring writers to demonstrate their interest and skills in writing for daytime drama. We were extremely impressed by the quality of the submissions we received from the previous college writing contests," said Dwyer-Dobbin. "In fact one previous winner, Kimberly Hamilton, is now a valuable member of the Guiding Light writing team." It happened for Kimberly, it can happen for you! Full-time matriculated undergraduate and graduate students of accredited colleges or universities, who are enrolled in a writing course in September 2004, will be eligible to enter. Interested students, who will write a long-term story document featuring characters currently on one of the Procter & Gamble shows, must request contest information and an entry packet by October 1, 2004. Entry registration forms must be returned by October 14,2004. Writing Contest entries must be submitted by November 12, 2004. One winner for each show will be selected and notified no later than December 17, 2004. Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, dramatic conflict, plot, structure, romance and audience appeal by executives at Procter & Gamble
Productions and As the World Turns and Guiding Light.
Rules and regulations for the contest will be distributed through faculty and advisors to students at colleges and universities across the nation in August 2004.
