5th Annual Soapdom Cybby Award Winners Thank Soapdom!
Days of our Lives won the Cybby for the Most Outstanding Soap of All Time. This is the second time Days has garnered this honor, winning for Most Outstanding Soap of All Time in 2003 as well.
Days of our Lives Executive Producer, Ken Corday: “I would like to say for everyone from the cast and crew, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and the middle of our hour-glass, which never runs out of sand. May you stay tuned for the next 39 years.”
Corday continued: “The reason the show is so popular is because of the viewers. Because the viewers love the show and they love that which has never disappeared from the show, which is the feeling of family. The Hortons. The Bradys – and in a sense, the DiMeras – have never lost their appeal. And that legacy continues generation after generation. And I believe that now, in our fourth generation, the show is as healthy as it was when it started, and we are grateful, very grateful.”
As the World Turns won in the Emmy categories for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series AND for Outstanding Drama Series. Hogan Sheffer, Head Writer of As the World Turns:
“Your taste is impeccable and your conclusions inarguable. And we – or at least I, since everyone else has gone home – thank you for the bottom of our hearts.”
Kate Linder (Esther, Young and the Restless) won in the Fun Category of “Maid with the Mostest” for the last two years. "It's always a real pleasure to be recognized by fans, who make it possible for me to play Esther," said a grateful Kate Linder. "Esther is a character that has grown over the years much with the help of the feedback from awards like Cybby. I must thank Bill and Lee Bell, Jack Smith, Kay Alden, Edward Scott, Kathy Foster, and all the cast and crew for making it possible for Esther to be "the mostest" for the past two years."
Michael E. Knight (Tad,) All My Children won in the Fun Category of Most Outstanding Sense of Humor. He has been nominated for the category in all three years we’ve offered the category, and won this category two years in a row, 2003 and 2004. To his fans, he says in gratitude:
“Oh those fans! Just thinking that I won makes me smile. You know, I’ve always been a humorous type of guy. I get the laughter from my mom and I enjoy laughing. At All My Children, the writers crank out the dialog with the humor added,” Knight said. “They know me and that’s how they write the material. Back when I started, Tad wasn’t that funny, but after getting to know me personally, they now write it quite differently. There is also a lot of laughter at AMC, and it makes it that much easier to have a sense of humor. You fans are great, and I’m glad to hopefully make you laugh.”
General Hospital won 17 out of the 34 total categories combined. That’s half the awards! Actress Tamara Braun, who plays the role of Carly, won a total of 5 Cybby Awards. Her thanks to the fans:
“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am so touched and so happy that I have been honored with these awards. I didn’t even need to get dressed up! I am actually still in my robe! Seriously, I am truly thankful and honored that my portrayal of Carly has pleased so many. My family is proud, but they are biased, so to have so many other people not related to me enjoy what I do really means the world to me. Thank you for the honor and thank you for the support. I will continue to do my best to make Carly someone that you want to watch. Many blessings, and thanks,” Tamara Braun.
Braun’s co-star on General Hospital, Rick Hearst, who plays the character of Ric on GH, won 2 Cybbys himself this year. His comments: “Thanks so much for this wonderful honor and recognition… It has been an honor to be received this way by the fans. My sincere hope is that I can continue to entertain and hopefully surprise the audience with such a great role as Ric Lansing. Here’s a web toast to you all!”
In the Fun Category of Most Endearing Imp, tall, dark, handsome Trent Dawson who plays "Henry" on As the World Turns, won by a considerable margin. “It’s fantastic! I always love what’s done by the fans,” Dawson said. “It’s really a great feeling, and I’d like to thank everyone that voted.”
Days of our Lives star, Thaao Penghlis, who plays the character of Tony DiMera, won the Fun Category of Most Outstanding Performance from a Hospital Bed. His thanks reflects his sense of humor at winning this Fun Category award: “I accept this syringe with honor!”
Vincent Irizarry, who plays the ever maniuplative Dr. David Haywood on All My Children, again won in the catetory of Most Devious Doctor. "Well, that's a dubious honor," he said with a smile. "But I'll proudly wear it." What's of interest, here, is that Irizarry wasn't aware that his character was so popular! He was delighted to hear of his Cybby win.
