Days Of Our Lives' Matthew Ashford will last air on September 21st. The actor, who is a veteran of the long-running show, making pitstops in Salem from 1987 to 1993, and again in 2001-2003, with what looks like to have been the start of his final bow in 2004. The actor tells the magazine: "As Ken (Corday, DAYS' executive producer) said, the door isn't shut to me coming back and I hope that that's true. There's no time schedule or anything, but I definitely feel there's a lot of things Jack Deveraux can do above and beyond the character of Jennifer." The actor's last remark refers to his leading lady Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) who opted not to renew her contract. Reeves' last airdate is also scheduled for September 21st. Ashford will fill his days performing in the Interact Theatre's production of "Urinetown, the Musical." Martha Byrne returns from maternity leave (the actress gave birth to her third child: Annmarie Kearon McMahon on June 12th) to As The World Turns as Lily on September 29th. An even bigger treat? More is revealed about the exits of Days Of Our Lives' Austin (Austin Peck) and Carrie (Christie Clark): The once formidable couple will make their last appearance in October. A show spokesperson, per SOD, reports: "We are in an incredible time of change at the moment. As exciting as this time is, it does necessitate changes in cast and story. There will be a shift in the cast and unfortunately, the characters of Carrie and Austin will be leaving. Fortunately, their exits will be happy for everyone involved in Salem." Clark has been on board off and on as Roman Brady's daughter since 1986. Peck, on the other hand, replaced Patrick Muldoon in the role of Austin Reed in 1995 and stayed with the show until 2002. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Jennifer Aniston and beau Vince Vaughn have rushed to the side of the actress' father, actor John Aniston, (Victor Kiriakis of DOOL), as he recovers from a heart attack in a California hospital. Soapdom was naturally very concerned by this report, so we got on the phone immediately and checked with our sources at Days. The good news is, the Chicago Sun-Times has been misinformed. John Aniston is healthy, up on his feet and was at work on the set of Days as of yesterday (Thursday, August 24th). James Reynolds (Abe, DOOL) will be part of the Martin Luther King Monument groundbreaking ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Monday, Aug. 28. Reynolds will announce the winners of Kids for King national youth essay program. The event will take place at the National Mall, the site of the future Martin Luther King National Memorial. Other speakers include NBA basketball player Chris Weber, former president of the Motion Picture Association Jack Valenti, and Deborah Elam of General Electric who will announce a $1 million donation to the MLK Memorial. The official groundbreaking ceremony is November 13 and the project will be finished in 2008. Contributed by LMS

The View returns live Tuesday, September 5 for it's 10th season. Among the most highly anticipated and noted changes for the show this season is the addition of Rosie O'Donnell, a beloved star of television, stage, and screen. O'Donnelll will serve as moderator and sit alongside fellow co-hosts Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Also, as of September 5, The View becomes the first show in the ABC daytime lineup to broadcast in HD (High Definition). During haitus, renovations were made to the current set, now giving the show a softer, more modernized environment. Plus, this season, The View officially begins searching for a new co-host. Over the past few months, producers have been inundated with resumes from hopeful women -- and men -- all interested in what has quickly become the "most coveted seat" in daytime talk. The P&G Classic Soaps Channel will launch on AOL's new video portal http://www.aolvideo.com/ beginning Tuesday, August 22. Procter & Gamble, the company that put the “soap” in soap operas, presents the P&G Classic Soaps channel, featuring episodes from “Another World,” “The Edge of Night,” “Search for Tomorrow” and “Texas,” including some available for the first time since they ended their successful runs. Passions is the first daytime drama available for download at iTunes. The new season of Dancing with the Stars announced its lineup of stars today. Along with an assorted crop of news anchors (Tucker Carlson, MSNBC), ex football players (Emmitt Smith), talk show hosts (Jerry Springer), and movie stars (Vivica A. Fox), comes it's soap opera related continent: Mario Lopez (Christian Ramirez, B&B) and Harry Hamlin (LA Law), husband of last seasons' runner up, Lisa Rinna (SoapTalk co-host). The rest of the roster includes Monique Coleman (High School Musical), Sara Evans (country music star), Willa Ford (pop star), Joe Lawrence (actor and former teen heart throb) and Shanna Moakler (beauty queen, model, reality tv star). The finale is the reality series' most-watched telecast with 406,000 total viewers; 121,000 W18-34 viewers; 221,000 W18-49 viewers; and 237,000 W25-54 viewers. On her official website, Eileen Fulton (Lisa, ATWT) weighs in on the death of her fellow actor, castmate and colleague, Benjamin Hendrickson (ex Hal, ATWT): "The sad news about our dear friend and colleague, Benjamin Hendrickson, has saddened the entire family of As The World Turns," she says. "Many of you have written to me to tell me how sad you are. I want to remember the good things about him. He had the funniest stories and the funniest jokes. I'll miss that. He was a brilliant actor - I wish I had had more scenes with him. There is nothing else to say, please remember him in your prayers as I am." While over at OLTL, set side sources are hinting that Michael Easton has reached a temporary agreement with the show to remain in Llanview even after his contract expires, which is any day now. Whether this means he is ready to commit to a new contract remains to be seen, but at least it appears that he will be around a tad longer. Contributed by LMS
SOD, in it's August 15th edition, is reporting in a blind item that a one of the members of As the World Turns teen bunch will not be renewing their contract. Interesting speculation, as the contract in question is not even set to expire until next year. Lot's can happen between now and then. Still, fans of the show have put two and two together and are figuring that Zach Roerig (Casey) is the likely candidate. Time will tell. Contributed by LMS & CL

A new challenge faces General Hospitals' Nikolas Cassadine - off camera. According to Tyler Christopher's official website, the actor will compete in his first ever triathlon in Los Angeles on September. Christopher will face the following obstacles on this day: Swim 1.5K (.9 miles)---Venice Beach; Cycle: 40 Kilometer (24 miles)---Hollywood and surrounding areas; Run: 10 Kilometers (6.2 miles)---Downtown. The finish line he hopes to cross is located at the Staples Center. Christopher is not the first GH star to take on the challenge. Réal Andrews (ex Taggert) competed in the LA Triathon several years ago. Soapdom was there! We wish Christopher the best of luck this year! Contributed by LDB & LMS

In some ATWT Buzz, Cady McClain (Dixie, AMC) who won a daytime Emmy for her role as Rosanna on As the World Turns, has revealed on her official website that she and former ATWT co-star, Hunt Block, or "HB" as she calls him (ex Craig), are romantically involved. In regard to the character of Craig being recently recast, McClain does not hold back her sentiments. "If you are wondering what I think of the recast of 'Craig,' I think it’s a load of crap. I don’t think anybody can make that character as terrific and funny and fun as he did," she blogs. Luckily, however, Block seems to have a sense of humor about it, cos McClain continues,"I asked him what he thought and he said, 'Well, I guess they had to do something with all those nice suits.'” Contributed by CL & LMS

Things are tough all over -- even for soap stars. Bryan Dattilo (Lucas) of Days of our Lives confided to Buzz that he's constantly borrowing money. "Hey I'm always hitting up my ex-wife for some bucks," he said. Dattilo also buzzed that one of his co-stars, who will remain nameless, is loaded!
