ATWT's Simon Returns. Y&R's Brittany's electrocution.

With 2004 behind us, Soapdom asked our contributors to reflect back on the year and note their picks for the most memorable moments in soaps for 2004. In a coming series of articles, they share their thoughts.

This week Soapdom features special contributor and Suds Buzz columnist, Mark E. Wilows, along with our very own Days, Passions and Y&R Board Moderator, SDModFriday. Here's what stood out in 2004 for them..  Do you agree?  Comment on the Message Boards.

Most Memorable Moments of 2004

My most memorable moments for 2004 come from two soaps ? As the World Turns and Days of our Lives.  The most memorable moment for me on ATWT was Simon returning home to Katie after being gone for months leading her to believe that he was dead. If only real life worked that way. It was magical when she saw him, and how they relived their wedding memories with the sheep and snow. It was magical.

Another memorable ATWT moment was between Tom and Margo. Margo went off and had a fling with Doc Reese, and then she begged Tom, her husband for forgiveness. She said she wanted things the way they were. Did Margo make a mistake with Doc? Absolutely. They argued, fought, but yet Tom loved her. Gradually they are getting closer and have shown that no matter the indiscretions or mistakes one makes in life, when you have the power of love you can overcome it. Seeing the both of them back together makes one to believe that things can be worked out, and forgiveness is still in this world.

A Days of Our Lives memorable moment has to be when Roman and Marlena were stranded on the island and each professed their caring for each other. However, Marlena is married to John a long time, and Roman is married to Kate, but it was heart warming to see that after all Marlena and Roman have endured they remain close friends. They had children together, shared a lot, and even though things didn't work and they parted, the friendship they share is an example to be followed. When couples go their separate ways, usually it that so and so, but Roman and Marlena are examples of remaining civil and showing that life still can be good.

Most Memorable Moments of 2004

My most memorable (and absolutely jaw-dropping!) moment of 2004 has to be on the Young and the Restless when Brittany was electrocuted during a performance at Marsino's. All of her friends had warned her not to continue working there after the threats her father had made against the club, but Brittany, being the stubborn, strong minded gal she is, dismissed all warnings and got more into her "work" than ever!

However, it was not long before someone rigged the stripper pole on stage to send a high voltage shock through Brittany! She was badly burned on her face and legs and became a recluse for some time after, thus leading to the ultimate break-up of the relationship between her and Raul, her engagement to Bobby Marsino, and eventually to Raul's leaving town for good. She ultimately learned to live with her scar, and had some cosmetic surgery to reduce the appearance of it.

I thought this storyline was great because of its ground-breaking issues, such as physical disfigurement, the world of exotic dancing, and also gang- related story material.

A close second is Y&R?s Phyllis being reunited with her son, Daniel, after years of separation and her fight to establish a real loving relationship with him.  The third ? also on Y&R -- is Victor's plan to build a Recreation Center for the inner-city youth. What a surprise!

My most memorable moment in 2004 on Passions it has to be when Alistair's face was finally shown! That was worth waiting five years for. LOL! It's too bad about what happened to his portrayer :(

(David Bailey, who portrayed Alistair Crane since September 2004, died tragically in an accidental drowning on Thanksgiving Day in Los Angeles. The role has since been recast.)  Passions Actor Dies in Accidental Drowing   Passions Recasts Alistair Crane
