News Anchor to Talk Show Host to Soap Lawyer, Rolonda Watts Begins Airing on B&B, July 17, 2003.
The Bold and the Beautiful, television’s second highest-rated daytime drama, has signed former talk show host Rolonda Watts to a recurring role on the series. In the storyline, Rolonda will play Julie Shoemaker, one of the top litigators in Los Angeles hired by Deacon Sharpe to protect his interests in relation to his two children, now being raised as Forresters.
“I am thrilled to be part of such a winning team,” beamed Rolonda on her first day on the set. “After all, it is the number one soap opera in the world.”
News woman - turned talk show host - turned actress -- Rolonda is perhaps best known for her internationally syndicated talk show, “The Rolonda Show,” which ran for four successful seasons.
Rolonda started her broadcast career as a general assignment reporter in Greensboro, NC for the CBS affiliate WFMY-TV and before she knew it was anchoring the morning news cut-ins for WNBC in New York for the “Today Show.” Rolonda’s first venture into talk shows was as the host of Lifetime Television’s “Attitudes,” which earned a Cable Ace Award nomination for “Best Talk Show.” She then moved into the news magazine scene, as senior correspondent, weekend anchor and producer for “Inside Edition,” where she was approached by King World to host her own talk show.
Rolonda’s current focus on acting has included the recurring role of attorney “Cameron Reese” on “Days of our Lives.” Soap Opera Digest honored her with a “Scene Stealer of the Week” for this villainous role. She has also guest-starred or recurred on numerous television shows, including: “The West Wing,” “7th Heaven,” “The District,” “The Division,” “Sister/Sister,” “The Steve Harvey Show,” “The Jamie Foxx Show,” and more recently “Boston Public,” and the upcoming Disney animated series “The Proud Family.”
In film, Rolonda starred in the short “Defying the Stars,” in which she played Hollywood legend Dorothy Dandridge the hour before her death. She also appeared in the E! Entertainment feature “Best Actress,” Spike Lee’s “Girl Six,” Kevin Williamson’s “Teaching Mrs. Tingle” and John Landis’ “The Stupids.”
Rolonda is currently busy producing her own film project, delivering motivational speeches, leading workshops and writing a book.
