It is with a very heavy heart that Soapdom reports the passing of The Young and the Restless' star, Beau Kazer.
Kazer originated the role of Brock Reynolds on Y&R and was known to be a thorn in the side of Genoa City's grande dame, Katherine Chancellor, played by the indubitable Jeanne Cooper on and off for many years.
Kazer was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in May 1951. He has stared on a number of television shows and films, including Hart to Hart, Barnaby Jones and B.J. and the Bear. In 1976 he stared in the Robert DiNero film, Taxi Driver, playing a character called, aptly enough, Soap Opera Man!
He started on Y&R in 1974, leaving in 1980, but returned a number of times to cause havoc in town. His most recent appearances were in 2103 when the show paid homage to his on screen mom, Jeanne Cooper, who passed away at the age of 84 in mid 2013.
Kazer passed away December 30, 2014 in his home in Thousand Oaks, California. No cause of death has been reported at this time. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Rae Lieurance Alkus.
Upon learning the news, castmate Daniel Goddard posted the following on his Facebook feed:
"The Yound and the Restless has lost another of its own. RIP Beau Kazer (Brock)." wrote Goddard. "I remember the first time I heard your voice and thought wow! This guy should have been in radio! Then, I watched u act and was blown away with how natural and honest your performances always were. God Bless."
Soapdom sends our condolences to Kazer's family and friends. May he RIP.
