The search is over. The Young and the Restless have cast the role of Kyle, Jack Abbott's son. Australian born Lachlan Buchanan is the lucky actor who won the role, and even luckier for us. This young Aussie is the epitome of handsome. He's 5'11", with the most gorgeous blue eyes and blond hair. Hailing from Maleny in Queensland, Australia, he'll have to use an American accent for his new role. He quipped to Soap Opera Digest who broke the story in January 29th...
"It's going to be a fun challenge," he said. "I'm really looking forward to playing Kyle."
Soapdom has no worries though. According to Buchanan's resume, he is expert at any of a number of accents. Including Russian, Asian and NY Brooklyn!
No stranger to continuing dramas, Buchanan has appeared on the Australian soap, Home and Away ("It's like a right of passage there," he told SOD), and US prime time shows like Castle, Pretty Little Liars, NCIS: LA, and Hung. His feature film credits include Behaving Badly, Some Freaks, Arcadia Lost, Newcastle, Leader of the Pack, and Seize the Day. He is the middle child of five, and has been performing on stage since he was eight years old. He now makes Los Angeles his home.
Playing Kyle will immediately pit Buchanan against the venerable Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), who, as we all know, can be a force to be reckoned with. Just how producers will introduce the character remains to be seen. He begins taping January 27. His first airdate is February 25, 2005.
Until then, here's a tease. This was an interview Buchanan did with ShowBizJunkies on the red carpet in 2010. The worst interview questions ever, like "What is it with Australian guys? Why are you all so hot?" Please, get a clue, love. Anyway, he responded as graciously as he possibly could. And you get to hear his Aussie accent in this clip. Enjoy!
