Big news in soaps this week. The 29th Annual Daytime Emmy nominations were announced, and ABC Daytime's All My Children walked away with a cool 21 nods. For the complete lowdown on the showdown, read on...

Daytime Emmy Nominations Announced

Stars from daytime television announced the nominees for the 29th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards at a special ceremony in the Rainbow Room in NYC on Wednesday, March 13, 2002. Highlights of the nomination announcements were broadcast live on CBS' The Early Show. Maury Povich of the Maury Povich Show hosted the ceremony.

Nominations for this year's Daytime Emmys were revealed by Beth Ehlers (Harley, Guiding Light); Rick Hearst (The Bold & the Beautiful); Rebecca Budig (Greenlee, All My Children); Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio, One Life to Live); Alison Sweeney (Sami, Days of Our Lives); and Christopher Douglas (Brian/Antonio, Passions). ABC's All My Children led with a total of 21 nominations. Last year's nomination topper, As the World Turns, came in second this year with a total of 17 nominations.

All My Children's nomination for Outstanding Daytime Drama is the 28th consecutive nomination in that category for the show.

The 29th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards presentation will be broadcast on CBS from MadisonSquareGarden on Friday, May 17 (9-11 p.m., ET). The show will be produced by CBS Productions with Dick Clark of dick clark productions (sic), Inc. serving as the executive producer.

The Creative Craft Daytime Emmy Awards, primarily for the creative arts categories, will be presented on Saturday, May 11, in New York at the Marriott Marquis Hotel and in Los Angeles at the Century Plaza Hotel.

Emmy Awards are presented to daytime television programs that are broadcast nationally between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. The eligibility period for this year's Daytime Emmy Awards was January 1, 2001 - December 31, 2001.

The 29th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards is a presentation of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

General Hospital Director Nabs DGA Award

GeneralHospital director, William Ludel, took home his second Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Daytime Serials. The ceremony took place on Friday, March 9, 2002 in Los Angeles. 

Ludel began directing for GH in 1992. He also won the category in 1995 with fellow GH director, the late Alan Pultz. Ludel won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Daytime Drama series with the directing team of GH in 1999-2000. Prior to his work on GH, Ludel also worked as a director on both DOOL and Another World. He has been directing daytime dramas since 1982.

The episode submitted was the dream show that aired on July 3, 2001 where Stavros infected everyone's dreams, including those of Luke and Laura, Nikolas and Gia, and Melissa and Roy. The script was written by Elizabeth Kort and the episode was produced by EP Jill Farren Phelps.

"Bill has an extraordinary way of bringing to the canvas of GH the values and charisma that make him so special as a human being," commented Jill Ferren Phelps. "We are thrilled at his achievement."

Marisa Ramirez Gets Engaged!

Congratulations go out to Marisa Ramirez (Gia, GH). Ramirez recently announced her engagement to actor Nathan Lavezoli. The couple met when Ramirez attended a GeneralHospital fan convention in Pittsburgh, PA last fall! For those of you who may not know, Ramirez gained stardom with a successful modeling career that started at the age of 13. Before signing on at GeneralHospital, she was the co-host of MTV's "Senseless Acts of Video." A September 22 wedding in Hawaii is planned.

AMC's James Kiberd In 5 Shows for PacRep's 2002 Season!

Carmel, California. The Pacific Repertory Theatre proudly announces that actor, artist, teacher and humanitarian James Kiberd (ex Trevor, AMC) will perform five plays throughout PacReps 20th Anniversary Season in 2002.

The popular stage, film, and television performer is best remembered for his unique, long-running character Trevor Dillon, on the award-winning TV soap opera All My Children. He will star as Dr. Treves in The Elephant Man, openingJune 8, 2002, as well as throughout the 2002 Subscription Season. Adding to the wealth of fine actors, directors and designers of distinction at PacRep, Mr. Kiberd will play Henry Bolingbroke in Shake-speares Henry IV, parts 1 and 2. He will also be featured as both the Chorus and Fluellen in Shake-speares Henry V, and as Launcelot Gobbo, the clown, in Shake-speares The Merchant of Venice.

Known for his exceptional stage acting skills, Mr. Kiberds stunning and spellbinding Macbeth topped all attendance records at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. Regional and off-Broadway credits include The

Winters Tale, Death of a Salesman, The Seagull, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,The Male Animal, and many others. Mr. Kiberd starred in the film, Loving with Geraldine Page, as well as in the television show of the same title, where he met his wife, Susan Keith, who was playing the role of Shayna.

A humanitarian and artist, Mr. Kiberd was a recipient of the prestigious Danny Kaye Award at the 1994 national convention of the U.S. committee for UNICEF. In 1995, Mr. Kiberd became the fourth National Ambassador for UNICEFs U.S Committee. The sale of special edition silk-screens created by Mr. Kiberd have earned 22 million dollars in major donations towards the Kiwanis/Unicef effort to eradicate iodine deficiency disorder the leading cause of mental retardation. In 1998, Mr. Kiberd received The Gold Medal of Honor for service to children worldwide.

Also a gifted painter, Mr. Kiberd is the first artist to receive the Meyer Schapiro Award (1999-2000). Mr. Kiberd studied art at the Rhode IslandSchool of Design, and the GraduateSchool of Fine Arts at theUniversity of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Fields and DOOL Pair for Amateur Chef Contest

Winner Gets Walk-on-Role, Product in Stores for Fall

Young & the Restless: Eva Longoria is the Grand Marshall of the Fiesta Flambeau Parade in San Antonio, TX on Saturday, April 27. The theme of the parade is magical moments. The parade will be televised live in San Antonio on the CBS affiliate, KENS-TV.
