Dear Suds Buds,
Much to share with you this week. Let's get right to it!
Port Charles Takes Another Walk on the Wild Side When "Superstition" Begins Airing On April 1, 2002
OnApril 1, 2002, ABC Daytime's "Port Charles" begins its seventh book, "Superstition," which continues to delve into the world of the supernatural and other unearthly phenomena. As the denizens of "Port Charles" mourn the sudden loss of a dear friend, one of the characters discovers some very old yet well preserved objects from the past that emanate extraordinary and unexplained powers. Both the tale behind their origins and the one that unfolds are packed with the scintillating drama, mystery, romance and suspense that have become the hallmark of each story arc.
Beginning Wednesday, March 27, ABC Daytime will launch a hot new on-air marketing campaign that will run the length of the book. Setting the perfect tone for the campaign is music by the popular reggae band UB40, singing their version of Stevie Wonder's classic, "Superstition."
For those of you who may not remember, on Monday, December 4, 2000, "Port Charles" embarked on the first in the series of thirteen-week story arcs. Each thirteen-week arc is titled as a "book." The first was titled "Fate." "Time in a Bottle" was the second book in the series, which debuted March 5, 2001, followed by "Tainted Love" on June 4, 2001, "Tempted" on September 3, 2001, a special four-week holiday story, "Miracles Happen," which premiered December 3, 2001, and most recently "Secrets" on January 2, 2002.
This faster-paced storytelling integrates the traditional Daytime drama with the highly successful telenovelas to bring viewers intrigue, excitement and surprises every day, every week, every month. "Port Charles" is up 8% season-to-date among women 18-49, 11% in women 18-34 and 15% in women 25-54, making it the only show in Daytime to show growth in all three key women demos season-to-date.
As you all know, "Port Charles" is a spin-off of the top-rated, award-winning drama "GeneralHospital," and features some of "GeneralHospital's" most beloved characters. It debuted on the ABC Television Network on June 1, 1997, as a two-hour, primetime special. "Port Charles" celebrated its 1000th episode on Friday, April 20, 2001. Core characters from each drama often appear on both shows.

"This promotion provided an excellent opportunity for Rent-Way to continue building name recognition as a leader in the rent-to-own industry," said Roger Zwingler, Rent-Way's Vice President, Marketing and Advertising. "We were also pleased to be able to give Barbara Smith the opportunity to enjoy a dinner with the soap opera star of her choice, J. Eddie Peck, from the show 'All My Children.' We design these promotions with the goal of creating some excitement among our employees and top-of-mind awareness for customers. I think this sweepstakes did a fabulous job of doing both."
