It comes as no surprise that two time Daytime Emmy winner Heather Tom (Kelly, OLTL) has decided not to renew her contract with the show. Her co-star, Dan Gauthier (Kevin, OLTL) was recently given his walking papers. Their characters have been written into a corner and it doesn't look like there's a convincing enough way to get them out. (Kelly is pregnant with Duke's child. Duke is Kevin's estranged son. Kevin was responsible for choosing Kelly over Duke for life-saving surgical procedures and Duke perished as a result.) Kevin and Kelly, a once loving and caring couple, did have their share of ups and downs over the years, but they always found their way back to each other. This time, the hurdle is just too big to overcome.
In a statement on her official website, Tom announced her choice to leave.
"It is with great regret that I have decided to leave the cast of OLTL. The time has come for me to return to Los Angeles and pursue other creative avenues. I have loved my time in New York City, and I have been so lucky to have known and worked with some of the best people in daytime. The love and support from everyone on the set of One Life and from all my fans has meant more to me than anyone can imagine," she states.
Even while still working on OLTL, Tom's been busy with tons of other projects. She goes on to say: "Please be sure to watch my episode of Monk coming up later this year, and also look for my production of 'The Secret Letters of Jackie and Marilyn' coming to the Pittsburgh Public in November and then on to New York. In addition to the above, Tom has recently completed three feature films, "Stiffs,” “The Rival," and "Undone," all in post production. She is also slated to appear in the film, "City Teacher," lensing now.
Tom has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy a record ten times for a performer under thirty, of which she's won twice. According to Tom's representation, the website statement is the only official word on the subject of her leaving Llanview. Tom's contract expires November 1, 2006. There was no final airdate at press time.
