Days of our Lives Eric Martsolf (Brady) and Jen Lilley (Theresa) Christmas single, Baby It's Cold Outside

By Mark Edward Wilows

While most of us decide what to do for the holidays, Jen Lilley (Theresa, Days of our Lives) did what she always wanted to do. Record a Christmas song. So she teamed with Eric Martsolf (Brady, Days of our Lives) and they have a hit on their shoulders with Baby it's Cold Outside (available now on iTunes). And what does the future hold for Lilley's singing career? Well...check out what she has to say about that and more...

Soapdom: How did this idea come about?

Jen Lilley: I've always dreamed of having a Christmas album, so one of my goals for 2014 was to record a Christmas single. I've now recorded three songs this year! (Two of them are Christmas tunes. The other Christmas tune is called "We're All Waitin' on You" and I will perform that live in Peekskill NY on Dec. 5 to raise money for wounded veterans at the Westchester All Stars Christmas concert. Find out more about this concert.

Soapdom: How did your collaboration with Eric Martsolf come about?

Jen Lilley: I've been looking for the perfect person to sing this duet with for years. Eric and I are good friends, and our voices blend so wonderfully. He was a natural choice. I was thrilled he agreed (though I doubt I gave him much choice). Eric's also hilarious, so I knew he would get the comedic nature of the tune.

Soapdom: Why did you choose Baby it's Cold Outside?

Jen Lilley: It's always been one of my favorite Christmas songs, and it's very comfortable for my voice. I figured I'd start with what works.

Soapdom: Where did you record this, and how long did it take?

Jen Lilley: We recorded the tune at Gregg Field's home studio (which is amazing!) We recorded it all in about 2 hours (musicians and all), and then we just hung out with our musicians and producer for another hour or so listening to music and hearing glorious tales of the greats like Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand. I was in heaven.

Soapdom: Are you and Eric ever looking at a singing career?

Jen Lilley: I am, but only as a side to acting. Acting is my first creative love. Eric sings all the time all over the country, but you'd have to ask him his plans.

Soapdom: You both did a teaser at the Day of Days Event and were both excellent. Have either of you had musical training?

Jen Lilley: Eric's been on Broadway. I grew up singing in church and eventually became a worship leader in Virginia. I recently joined my church's worship team in LA as well.

Soapdom: You said you are planning on releasing a Christmas album next year. Please elaborate. Also will you be solo, or will it be duets?

Jen Lilley: It will mainly be solo, but I'm looking for duets because duets are so much fun!

Soapdom: If you will do more duets, will it be with Eric, or perhaps someone else?

Jen Lilley: If he's game, I am. I'm certainly going to try to get him to do another tune with me.

Soapdom: Why are you doing a Christmas album?

Jen Lilley: I've just always loved Christmas music, and it's been a childhood dream to record a Christmas CD. When I was little, my mom used to host these elaborate caroling parties. I remember going around the neighborhood with a mug of hot chocolate and singing for neighbors to cheer up their holiday season. It was precious.

Soapdom: Did you personally choose the songs?

Jen Lilley: Yes, but I haven't recorded the full album yet. I've had a list going for YEARS, so I already know which ones I REALLY want to record.

Soapdom: Baby it's Cold Outside is on I tunes. Where will your album be available?

Jen Lilley: I'm sure it will be on iTunes and Google Play and Amazon, etc. next year. But time will tell.
