Eric Martsolf, (Brady) of Days of our Lives used to sit around with his wife, Lisa, thinking about someday going into business. Well! The dream has turned into reality. A few weeks ago the Martsolf's opened We Rock The Spectrum KID'S GYM in Studio City, Ca., A place where kids can go and just be kids.
"I was sitting around and thinking what do I know a lot about. Well? Kids! I have two twin sons and my wife and I were stuck on what business to attempt," Martsolf said. "I thought...heck we do so much rolling around the floor (with the kids) this is perfect. Why not a kid's gym?"
Martsolf's wife is a dancer, choreographer, and a Cardio Barre instructor (aerobics). He, along with his wife ,have such a love for kids that this is the perfect fit. "Hey I am a guy that is a kid, or at least at heart. I admire anyone that thinks that way. It really keeps you young. We also went into this not only for our kids, but all kids."
What makes this place special is it caters to kids with sensory needs (typical or diagnosed) along with equipment that has a purpose for the child. But the gym is open to all kids. The gym is not full of flashing colors, or anything to make the kids hyper. It is a place where the kids are having fun, but not being over stimulated, and each sets out at their own pace.
We Rock The Spectrum KID'S GYM has swings, a trampoline, zip line, a toy store and so much more. "I mean...this may be my place, but you really have to see this place," Martsolf said. "I went into this open minded. I wanted to utilize space in the building wisely. The possibilities here are endless." The toy store features Melissa & Doug products.
Martsolf has future plans in the works like an occupational nutrition plan, which would teach kids about proper eating and nutrition, and have vending machines with healthy foods. We Rock The Spectrum KID'S GYM can also host birthday parties and in the future charitable events. (See Web Site)
The gym is not only a welcome mat for the kids, but great for parents, too. A parent can take a break from the everyday chores of parenting and go shopping, or to dinner, or mom can go to a spa to be pampered and be able to leave the kids in a friendly fun and safe environment.
The Martsolf's used to take their two boys to the We Rock The Spectrum KID'S GYM in Tarzana, CA., where they just fell in love with the place.
"Lisa and I started talking to the owner and founder, Dina Kimmel, and we became fascinated," Martsolf adds. "I just knew this business venture was for us, and the best part is the owner had plans to branch out, maybe even franchise, so aboard we came. All business is a roll of the dice, but I feel confident and someday hope to open more facilities."
The Martsolf's know first hand what it is to have active children, which is why this place is great for kids to unwind and relax, but yet are doing everything in a healthy normal manner like kids should do. They also have a chance to develop their social skills and learn to modify their behavior.
"I observed my kids. They were so active. Like lightening! Now they are calmer. They eat calmer, if that makes sense? And the boys even sleep better at night. It's a transition of the kids not being hyper."
Martsolf said that his wife is in the place at least ten hours a day, and with his hectic schedule of doing Days of our Lives, appearances, and shall we say...being Eric Martsolf, he does peek in from time to time to keep tabs. "Oh heck yes! I can't tell you how often. I wish I could be there more. I love this place, and I invite everyone to come on down. You will not be disappointed."
