It's looking like a January massacre. Although we cannot confirm for certain at this time, Soapdom has learned that it is quite possible that a number of actors have been given their walking papers as their characters fade off into the soap opera sunset over the next few weeks.
As the World Turns is particularly hard hit, with up to seven characters leaving the canvas including Grayson McCouch (ex Dusty), who last aired Friday, January 18; Cady McClain (Rosanna) who will air until Tuesday, January 29; Jennifer Landon (Gwen) and Jesse Soffer (Will) who are rumored to be out sometime in March; Scott Bryce (Craig) who will leave Oakdale sometime this Spring, along with Wally Kurth (Sam) who will last be seen sometime in February, and Ryan Serhant (Evan) whose last airdate is scheduled for Thursday, February 14. According to Soapdom sources, fans are most upset about the imminent departure of Scott Bryce (Craig) a character fans love to hate. With news of his departure hitting the cyber waves, fans began inundating the show with letters and phone calls in protest.
While on the ABC television network, All My Children is rumored to have cut bait with a number of characters, meaning their portrayers will soon be or already are on the unemployment lines. Along with Stacy Haiduk (ex Hannah), whose last airdate was January 14, and Sabine Singh (ex Greenlee) who aired until January 15th, Brent Webber (Sean), Jeff Branson (Jonathan) and even Jacob Young (JR) could all be on the chopping block.
Over at General Hospital, Robin Christopher (Skye), along with Natalia Livingston (Emily) could be gone for good in the not too distant future. Even the mob kingpin himself, Sonny, played by Maurice Benard, may soon be off the canvas. The actor's contract is up in June and he is not sure at this time if he wants to continue playing such a "dark character" as it takes its toll on him personally.
On Guiding Light we will see the return of Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan), but it will be short-lived. He told Soapdom in a recent interview that he only committed to a total of six-weeks, and whether those six weeks occur chronologically, or intermittently, remains to be seen.
Finally, at Days of our Lives, Martha Madison (Belle) and Brandon Beemer (Shawn) have been given their walking papers. It came rather suddenly, with a lot of story material to develop and explore. Soapdom members contacted us saying things like please bring back Jason Cook and Kirsten Storms in the roles of Shawn and Belle, the actors who originated the roles. With Storms well ensconced as General Hospital's Maxie, that's probably not an option at the moment, but never say never in soapdom. Meantime, Madison is looking to the future, hoping to continue a daytime career. Soapdom has also just learned that Ashlee Holland (Crystal, DOOL) has been let go. Stay tuned.

... So sad to see such talent leave. Especially Jennifer Landon. She's a doll. I'm sure big plans are in the works for her. |

... ATWT should just install revolving doors. The sad part is that they let some many accomplished actors go - to add to the list above, Robin Mattson (Cheri Love), Daniel Hugh Kelly (Winston Mayer). There were several new potentials the actress that plays Kit and the actor that plays Evan - yet they force feed us Sophie and Cole and the nu-psycho Adam... I dont understand what is wrong with this production team. |
