Kristen Alderson (Kiki, General Hospital)ABC Daytime soap opera fans were dealt another blow last week, when fan favorite, and soap opera darling, Kristen Alderson, announced that she was leaving General Hospital after a three-year run.

Alderson, twenty-three, began her drama career at age six, when she started on ABC's now defunct, One Life to Live as Starr Manning, the daughter of Todd and Blair. Fans watched as the adorable little girl grew into womanhood in Llanview, and even had a child of her own.

When One Life to Live was cancelled, Alderson was tapped to bring the character of Starr to General Hospital. But soon, conflict between production company, Prospect Park, who had won the rights to continue producing both One Life to Live and All My Children, ABC Daytime's other cancelled soap, and distribute the shows via their online network, TOLN, the character of Starr Manning was soon off the canvas on General Hospital.  Kristen Alderson, however, returned to GH as the new character, Kiki Jerome.

But Alderson, although she loves her castmates and crew at General Hospital, has decided that it's time for her to explore other options. There were rumors a foot that she is being or has been recruited to assume the role of Hope on The Bold and the Beautiful, but B&B made an official statement saying that they have not, nor are they considering recasting the role of Hope.  Besides, from what we are hearing, Alderson may very well want to do something totally different than acting on a soap opera. Like pursuing a singing career. When One Life to Live left the airwaves, she recorded a beautiful song, which aired with one of the final episodes. She is a talented singer. (Special thanks to @brianmcandrew for reminding me to update the article with B&B's official sentiments.)

One thing is certain. Soapdom has enjoyed watching Alderson grow into womanhood before our eyes and will miss her on ABC Daytime. One very classy young lady, we applaud her integrity in explaining her actions to her fans herself. We wish her the very best in all of her future endeavors.

Kristen Alderson's message to her fans (link to actual video below)

Kristen Alderson: "Hi guys. It's Kristen Alderson. I am so sorry I'm just now getting this video to you guys. I wanted to get it to you sooner, but life has just been crazy these past few weeks. Instead of tweeting, I wanted to make this video and tell you guys myself why I decided to leave General Hospital and I did (leave GH) and it's because — well it's NOT because of the cast and crew. I can tell you that right now. Everyone has been so lovely to me. I've had the best time over the past three years.

"And this decision is purely spur of the moment, kind of an epiphany that I had that I have been in this amazing soap bubble since I was six-years-old, and now I am twenty-three, and I have never done anything else, I've never pushed myself, or challenged myself to do other things, and not necessarily in the industry, but things in life like ... taking a class here or there for something other than acting, and getting back into singing, which you guys know I love to do — so that would be really exciting.

"And who knows where this road is going to take me?  But, this all happened very quickly, but I am prepared for the worst, and I am prepared for any failures. I am prepared for all the excitement that it will bring, and it's just a new chapter in my life, and I couldn't be more grateful for the support you guys have given me, and all of the love.  I love you guys so much.  I've always cared about you.  I've grown up with you, you've grown up with me, and I am always going to be a part of your life.  I will be tweeting and instragramming my little heart out to make sure that we are still (tight) ... and you know I will! 'Thank You' to Ron (Carlivati) and Frank Valentini, and everyone at ABC for all of your support, and 'Thank You' to the fans — you're the best in the world.  Soap fans are family, and you always will be be. Thanks."
