Days of our Lives Cast Celebrates 45th Anniversary with Fans

As any die hard daytime drama fan can tell you, daytime actors and shows have gone out of their way to give back to the community. For the past two years at the Daytime Emmy Awards broadcast, segments dedicated to the initiative "Daytime Gives Back" have aired showing the need to donate both home and abroad to help the world's children leaving nary a dry eye in the house. Having such a major platform and using it to raise awareness is exceptionally commendable. The hope is fans will take the message to heart and give to the cause.  But what about giving back to the fans?

Every show has a fan club. Each year, or every other year in the case of Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful, soaps host fan club gatherings where fans come from all over the country and even the world just to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars. But these events are usually quite costly in themselves, and when you tack on air fare, hotel stay, and other travel-related incidentals, it adds up to quite a bundle.

Several years ago I had the pleasure of speaking to a wonderful woman and dedicated General Hospital fan. We were chatting at the GH fan weekend, where not only does the fan club host an official luncheon, but many of the stars have their own mini events, like a breakfast, or dinner, or a bowling party. Each of these cost additional money to attend. This woman told me that the weekend had put her over $500.00 out of pocket, conservatively speaking. In these hard economic times, that kind of expenditure makes it tough for most people to rationalize – just to see their favorite soap stars.

Soapdom Four Bubbles UpWhich is why Soapdom is giving a very enthusiastic "Four Bubbles Up" to Days of our Lives for hosting its third annual "Day of Days" fan event at Universal Studios Hollywood free of charge. This is an amazing opportunity for fans to spend some quality time with just about the entire cast of Days of our Lives, and it costs nothing to attend. I mean, come on. How cool is that?

Yes, if you live in North Carolina or Canada and you want to join the festivities, you have to fly in and stay somewhere, but at least you don't have to pay for access to the event itself. In my mind, this is truly a soap opera that is giving back, and giving back to the people who deserve it most – their loyal fans. Way to go Days of our Lives!

Days of our Lives Day of Days 2010 takes place November 6, 2010 at Universal Studios Hollywood from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This year marks Days 45th anniversary and stars can't wait to celebrate the milestone with the fans.
