Following the successful 2007 CD “A Holiday Affair,” stars from the ABC dramas All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital join together to perform a selection of love songs for a new soon-to-be released Valentine’s Day CD entitled “A Love Affair.” Five-time Emmy® Award winner Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer, “General Hospital”) makes his recording debut with “Every Time We Say Goodbye,” and Emmy® Award winner Susan Lucci (Erica Kane, “All My Children”) headlines this January 29, 2008 release from Buena Vista Records. The announcement was made Monday by Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney-ABC Television Group.
“Music is an integral part of our dramas,” said Frons. “Whether featured performances from today’s popular artists or releasing merchandise showcasing the vocal talents of our stars, the audience responds because of their passion for the shows and the artists.”
If you say so, Mr. Frons. All I know is this is one fun CD.
Featured tracks include:
• “They Say It’s Wonderful” – Susan Lucci (All My Children)
• “Let It Be Me” – Kassie DePaiva (One Life to Live)
• “I’ll Be There” – Tika Sumpter (One Life to Live)
• “My Funny Valentine” – Bradford Anderson (General Hospital)
• “Because You Loved Me” – Bobbie Eakes (All My Children)
• “Never My Love” – Kathy Brier (One Life to Live)
• “Every Time We Say Goodbye” – Anthony Geary (General Hospital)
• “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” – Sonya Eddy (General Hospital)
• “Quando, Quando, Quando” (duet) – Jason Tam and Brittany Underwood (One Life to Live)
• “In My Life” – Rick Hearst (General Hospital)
• “From This Moment On” – Kristen Alderson (One Life to Live)
• “Always On My Mind” – David Canary (All My Children)
What's startlingly delightful to me is the fact that Tony Geary, long a mainstay in the ABC stable of talent, only just revealed to his network that he could sing at last year's Equity Fights Aids Broadway benefit. After all this time portraying Luke on General Hospital, no one knew of Geary's vocal prowess until just last year! Hearing him on this CD is a true treat.
However, with all the fine female voices compiled on the CD, I would have also wanted more tunes from some of the ABC soap hunks, like maybe Aiden Turner (Aiden, AMC), Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio, One Life to Live) and Maurice Benard (Sonny, General Hospital), but I guess maybe those guys aren't into recording. At any rate, “A Love Affair” will be available for purchase at mass-market retailers ($18.98), digital music service providers, and online at abctvstore.com . Stay tuned.
