Did you ever crave that soap star look? Just how do they do it? Is it all purely natural beauty, or do the very beautiful stars of daytime get helped along in the looks department by the talented behind-the-scenes make up, hair, and wardrobe people that create their looks? It's not a trick question, we all know the answer to that one! Soapdom is delighted to welcome to the Look Like a Soap Star column, Norman Bryn, a film and television makeup artist for 30 years, with credits in all avenues of the business including soap operas, of course. At All My Children for five years, Bryn designed beauty makeups for Susan Lucci (Erica), Kelly Ripa (Hayley), and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Kendall #1) among others. Bryn makes people pretty, but pretty UGLY too sometimes, with special-effects makeup at Guiding Light and One Life to Live over the years. Bryn's new book, Makeup & Misery: Adventures in the Soap Factory, is a chronicle of his experiences in the daytime realm, which might best be described as the soap opera behind the soap opera! Recent film credits include The Namesake for director Mira Nair, and Cloverfield for producer JJ Abrams. In Look Like a Soap Star, Bryn is the most recent in a line of soap opera notables like Arianne Zucker (Nicole, Days of our Lives) and Danielle Orsino (fashion designer for soapwear) to offer their insight and knowledge in this column so that you may apply some of their expertise to your own beauty regimen. But not only will Bryn share the make-up tips of the stars, he's bound to come clean on some back stage gossip and then some! Sit back, relax and learn from this soap opera make up pro. Feel free to ask Bryn questions about make-up tips. Just post your question in the comments at the end of his weekly articles. |
