I didn't even watch The Chew: I Want My All My Children Featured

ABC Daytime debuted The Chew today.  I didn't watch, there were too many other fun soap opera related things to see. Like Jacob Young  (ex JR, All My Children) returning to The Bold and the Beautiful in the role of Rick Forrester, or his fun appearance on The Talk, which, by the way, also had to do with food.  Apparently, in homage to All My Children's broadcast demise, The Talk is planning to run this segment called "All My Food," or "All My Dishes," or something like that where they will feature a former All My Children actor in the kitchen with them whipping up a favorite recipe.

So, with all that going on, and then of course, the premiere of the reboot of Days of our Lives, and catching up with Dirty Soap (which I didn't get to see last night, but thankfully, there is DVR), The Chew was the absolute last thing on my agenda.

From what I've read online, however, the main host, Mario Batalli, the chef the network was promoting up the kazoo, wasn't even in studio!  He showed up via remote from some golf course in New Jersey, and said a few words, and from what i hear, his microphone wasn't even working correctly.

Not the auspicious beginning for ABC Daytime's elixer to boost ratings and revenue in the time slot.

I miss All My Children.

What I never understood from the moment ABC announced the cancellation of All My Children (and One Life to Live, early next year), and shared news about their replacements, like this show The Chew, was what was ABC Daytime thinking? For years they had been griping that their soap opera audience was skewing too old. They wanted younger viewers.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong here, but who would a teen girl rather watch? Tall, dark, handsome, and chisled Cameron Mathison (Ryan, All My Children), or a middle-aged cubby, balding red-headed chef who is obsessed with Crocs?  I just don't see The Chew skewing that much younger an audience.  At least not young enough to grow up with the show.

So, unfortunately, or fortunately, you'll not be seeing a review of The Chew at www.Soapdom.com.  A cooking show is just not our thing.  Don't get me wrong. I love cooking shows. In their place, like on the Food Network or the Cooking Channel.  I don't want my broadcast nets to turn into a cabler, which is what ABC seems to want to make out of its early afternoon block.

This is one viewer that will now abandon that network.  My fear is that many others will as well, meaning that ultimately One Life to Live (for however much time it has left) and General Hospital will suffer as a result.

A weekday without All My Children is like a fish without water.
    Boo the Chew

Never was a fan of Mario Batalli, either.
