Just in time for an explosive storyline for February Sweeps

"General Hospital" is at it again!  On the heels of the recent ratings success of the second Luke and Laura wedding, award-winning actor Kin Shriner returns to Port Charles as Scotty Baldwin.  It's the role he originated three decades ago.  Pictured at right, Scotty Baldwin, Laura's first husband, is a surprise and unwelcomed guest at Luke and Laura's wedding in 1981.  His return in 2007 will coincide with an explosive storyline for the upcoming February sweep where a new storytelling technique will be used, a first in daytime. Shriner will first appear on air in late January.

"As we continue the story that began with Laura's return, it was a logical choice to bring back another legacy character that viewers want to see and allows us to tell another chapter in the emotional story that surrounds these characters," said Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney-ABC Television Group.

"I look forward to returning to the 'General Hospital' family. The fans are going to be very excited to see my character return to town with a well-crafted and 'edge of your seat' storyline. Some very important questions about Luke, Laura and Scotty will be answered," adds Shriner.

What Soapdom wants to know is what's this new storytelling technique GH is about to implement?  You'll remember that GH's half-hour spin off, "Port Charles," also tried a new storytelling technique where they told stories in 13-episode arcs, called Books, which emulated the Spanish-language telenovelas.  The "Books" actually had beginnings, middles and endings, unheard of in soaps.  But we all know what happened to Port Charles.  Likewise, "All My Children" recently incorporated a choppy, MTV-like, hand-held camera technique which has met with less than a favorable response from fans.

Far as General Hospital's new technique, and exactly why, what, and how Scotty Baldwin will impact the lives of Port Charles denizens in this "edge of your seat storyline," we'll have to wait and see.  Further details on the character and the overall storyline will be announced in the coming weeks.  Stay tuned.
