Welcome Soapdom viewers and Young & the Restless fans! This is my first article of this sort for Young & the restless and Soapdom and I am very excited to share my thoughts and feelings for you in a very real format. I hope you enjoy this article and many other to come each week here at www.Soapdom.com.
My first observation is what happened to the backbones of all the women in Genoa City with the exception of Nikki, the one-time resident ninny? I love Nikki’s take charge new attitude. For example Thursday’s episode: Nikki laughed and dismissed David like he was a tired child when he asked to go home rather than stay and chat it up with Paul, which is what Nikki preferred to do. And what about that? Suddenly Paul is Nikki’s BFF and protectorate? Since when? They were engaged a lifetime ago and since then Paul and Nikki have rarely shared the screen.
Man or no man, David, Paul, or Victor, I’m glad to see her become woman, and roar.
Unfortunately it appears with each passing week Victoria, the independent executive that could have been a fair sparring partner in the board room with Victor, has reverted into an almost child like state. Certainly not finding inspiration in her mother‘s new found freedom and strength.
This week we got to see the memory of Cassie brought to life as the entire town remembered the teen that died as a result of drunk driving three years ago.
I commend Y&R for bringing this previous storyline to light for a change of pace, and nice retro rewind, to get a message across to young viewers at a time when teens are attending proms and graduations where alcohol may be readily available. The pain and impact on not just an individual’s life, but the friends and family they leave behind was shared with viewers in a professional, yet sit up and take notice manner without it turning into a corny public service announcement.
On a lighter topic I have one word for you. Gloria! She always brings a smile to my face. Gloria annoys me in fun way. I look forward to her self-absorbed one liners and of course her down right comical, yet disturbing relationship, with her criminal sons. I just don’t know if I like Gloria rich or poor better. I love Jeffrey and Gloria together (I was not a fan of William) I hope to see them make it, but I am sick and tired of this dance they insist on dragging out. Gloria has whined to anyone who would listen about the divorce while Jeffrey continues to court Jill just to annoy his wife. There is potential for this evil twin and serial widow if Gloria gets her way during the divorce hearing.
Well she doesn’t. Jeffrey takes everything the only thing Glo is left with is her wedding rings and a broken heart. Don’t fret dear Gloria, Jeffrey misses you too.
What is wrong with Jill? She had the nerve to criticize Gloria for her work attendance then fire her. We have gone literally months at a time without ever seeing Jill at Jabot. Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black. Jess Walton/Jill Foster-Abbott is such a strong actress and character I’m glad we are seeing more of her; but I’d like to see more than her and Nikki arguing like they are competing for captain of the cheer squad. And is there really anything left to say about her and Katherine’s ongoing bickering? I guess someone feels there is, because this week also brought the anniversary of Phillip’s death. Jill and Kay tormented each other, and Cane, with snide remarks and accusations.
Obviously Jill has gone mad with corporate power which is apparent by firing Glo and riding Nikki’s back like she is a horse out at the Newman ranch.
Let’s turn the page and see what is going on with the gang at Restless Style. Daniel is gone. I am not sad about that. I like the character, but feel we as viewers need a break from him as of recently. I just hope when he returns he hasn’t had a image over-haul, if you know what I mean, I do want to see Michael Graziadei remain in the role he created.
Let’s see more of Danny! I was so hoping Amber and Danny would team up as a new rock & roll duo. Amber must not have time for a music career anymore with all the answering phones she is doing at Restless Style.
Nick got his memory back after being in a car accident. I found this revelation rather anti-climatic. We all knew the moment was coming, but I felt Y&R would do more with it. Oh well, maybe it will be better when he remembers that he has been lying about Summer’s paternity. Ooopps! Did I say that out loud? Phyllis, Jack, and Sharon have been surprisingly quiet this week, even with the return of Nick’s memory and Cassie’s anniversary.
Victor, Sabrina, and Adam same old same old. Adam is an outcast and Sabrina and Victor are in love. Ain’t love grand? Well cupid may have hit Thursday when Adam met, in my opinion, his soul mate, Heather Stevens. Adam and Heather do a lot of mattress dancing Friday, when they aren’t in mediations over the Jabot/Newman infringement case.
