From Luke & Laura to Damian Spinelli, for Laurie Bedigan, General Hospital rocks!
Laurie Bedigan has been writing Soapdom’s General Hospital Check Up since May of 2008.
A resident of Detroit, Michigan, Laurie received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She grew up in the suburbs but she now lives in Detroit. “People tend to give Detroit a bad name but it really is an interesting city with a lot of culture,” says Laurie.
After college, Laurie spent some time working in fundraising and special events for the American Lung Association. She was also a contributor to the Association’s monthly newsletter. After leaving the American Lung Association, Laurie spent some time working in Detroit radio. She also spent a year working as a writer and research assistant for a local film producer. Later in her career, Laurie worked in Human Resources at Target. She also served as the editor of the store’s monthly newsletter.
In July of 2007, Laurie began contributing to the Y&R pages of the TVMegasite, Inc. She quickly moved over to the GH pages. “GH is my ultimate soap. I watch it everyday without exception. I’ve been watching for almost 30 years,” says Laurie. Who is her favorite all time GH couple? Luke & Laura, of course. As for her current GH favorites, “My favorite character is Spinelli – I think Bradford Anderson is beyond brilliant. My favorite actor is Sebastian Roche. He’s had such an impressive career. There’s so much more to him than meets the eye – he’s an amazing actor and a charming man. The blue eyes and the accent don’t hurt either.” Laurie was fortunate enough to interview Bradford and Sebastian recently when they were in Michigan for a charity event.
Laurie says her favorite aspect of soaps is the accessibility of the actors. “I love how they make themselves available for the fans. I attended my first fan event (Steve Burton, Jason, General Hospital) a couple months ago and I’m hooked!”
Laurie has always had a passion for writing. Aside from writing, she enjoys reading (especially autobiographies), movies, listening to music and discussing GH with friends. Right now, Laurie is working toward her MA in elementary education.
