Her beauty, her charm, and her bubbly personality, not to mention how she lights up a room, Molly Burnett (Melanie, Days of our Lives) is back and she says the best is yet to come.
"Yes! The best is definitely yet to come. Keep watching," she jokingly said. "I really love what I do, and I do it for the fans. After all they are the people that are watching."
Fans of the show will remember Burnett from her four-year stint on the show, but now, after a two year absence, she is ready to take on Salem once again and is thrilled about being back.
"I got a call from the powers that be asking if I wanted to come back," she said. "There was no doubt. I was like, yea! And here I am."
Burnett said the feeling is like she never left and refers to returning as "coming back home." Adding that it is fantastic and an honor to be called back.
In the soap world, as any veteran viewer can tell you, after a few years away a character can be recast, so what made them bring the original Melanie back? "I don't know" she said with a laugh, "but I'm glad they did. I have a strong bond with the people I work with. Everyone is so talented."
Burnett refers to her TV dad, Shawn Christian (Dr. Jonas). "Shawn and I get along so well. As an actor, it is important to give the other actor something. We keep each other on the edge," she said. "I like to throw some stuff at the other actor and see how they respond and accept. I believe in acting when you listen to your scene partner that's what makes the scene special."
Burnett says a lot of story is in store for Melanie, and she has no regrets as to the way the writers' are handling the character. She loves the job they are doing.
In case you're a little rusty on the history, Burnett's character, Melanie, left town to live in Europe with her mom (Crystal Chappell). Now that she's returned however, will we see the same old Melanie, or we are in for a bit of a change? Will the viewer see a different side of Melanie, and if so, what could that be? Or will she be the same good ole Melanie we have all come to love?
"Oh Yes! You know...you can't change a person, but you can see a person grow. I enjoy watching Melanie go in different directions, and I believe the fans will as well. I'm excited to see what is coming for Melanie and I'm having a blast."
Burnett has been acting since she was a child. The Colorado native said that it began by writing open letters to directors in Hollywood, and then she told her dad to take them and see what he can do (laughing). She pointed out that she was and is still obsessed with being an actress.
Burnett said her parents are not in the business. In fact, they are in oil and gas, but have always been very supportive of her.
"My parents support me in everyway," she revealed. "When I wanted to go to Hollywood, my dad just dropped me off," she said. "It was like he dumped me at 19 years old in Hollywood and here I am. For the longest time, he thought he was the worst father in the world, but today they are very proud."
Burnett not only loves doing the show, but she is probably her worst critic. "I watch the show and say...Oh I should have done this," she explains. "Also in the beginning I was like...Oh my God I always have my hands in my hair, so I learned not to do that anymore. I feel that to revaluate my work makes me progress as an actress."
Burnett's hobbies includes following football and she is in to Fantasy Football. Her brother is involved in music and in her spare time, she is dedicated to helping him with his career and trying to find his next move.
As we were wrapping up our conversation, we asked Burnett what she'd like to share with her fans? "I want to thank you all for being there," she said from the heart. "Again...it is because of you I do what I do. Again...Thanks!"
