Soapdom gets more dish, dirt and scoop from all stars on Daytime's biggest night! Plus, Kassie de Paiva interviews Dan Gauthier (ex Kevin, One Life to Live) on his nomination!

It was another glorious sunny day in southern California, but mercury was rising and it was taking its toll on the 2007 Daytime Emmy red carpet arrivals.

Pretty in pink, Kim Zimmer (Reva, GL) was one of the first to walk the gauntlet.  Never one to mince words, she told it like it was, “I’m sweating!”

“I’m excited.  I’m always excited.  This is the best.” When Soapdom told her how many of her co-stars praised her talents, she was touched, “Ohhh, they better.  I’m kind of the Mama over there. That’s even better winning an Emmy!”

Nominated for the first time as Outstanding Younger Actor, Van Hansis (Luke, ATWT), visits message boards some times, but tries to take the good with the bad.  He takes it all with a grain of salt.  Winning would be awesome for the talented nominee, “I’m thrilled to be nominated, but even if I don’t win all of this is beyond my wildest dreams.”  He believes he’s doing the best he can to tell a story, “I’m glad that the writing is so great, that the writers have had the guts to continue with the story and are continuing.”  He doesn’t see any difference between playing a gay character and a straight character.  “I think the only thing that limits story is the lack of imagination.”

Looking like a dream in an orange sort of sari, Emmy nominee Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL) strolled down the red carpet like an Indian Princess!  More than anything that has helped her along the way is the age of confidence.  Extremely thankful for the nomination, she was really surprised by the honor.  “My storyline was a little watery at the beginning of the year, and then it got a little deeper as the year went on and I was thankful.”  In addition to the big night, Tognoni was excited about her 4:30AM flight to Mexico and thought it might be easier to pull an all-nighter!  “Goodness knows, I’m wearing enough make-up for one.”  There’s some big news for Dinah fans, “Dinah changes in a way in the next few months that will be completely new and as an actress I’ve never played anything like it.  I’ve already done a week of it and I really hope it moves people as much as it moves me.”    Back to her fabulous dress, which prompted us to ask if she was worried about a wardrobe malfunction?  Laughing she replied, “No, I’m in completely staying positive mode!”

Two of daytime’s younger thespians, Hunter Allen (Noah, Y&R) and Darcy Rose Byrnes (Abby, B&B and Y&R), walked the carpet like a couple of pros.  They looked like something out of a storybook, a Prince and Princess ready for a grand ball. Hunter, however, felt a little weird. Byrnes, beaming in her cotton candy pink gown, knew it was a dream, “It’s not something you wear everyday.” Exuding confidence and excitement all at once, they knew just how to charm the press and smile for the cameras.

Heather Tom (ex Kelly, One Life to Live)It’s been about 8 months since Heather Tom’s (ex-Kelly, OLTL; ex-Victoria, Y&R) seen most of her One Life cast mates. She’s crazy about Dan Gaulthier, (ex-Kevin, OLTL), the man she partnered with on the show and hoped he would walk off with the golden statuette.  About her own nomination, she’s just happy to be invited the party!

Rachel Melvin (Chelsea, Days of our Lives)“I’m more nervous than excited and I’m not even nominated.”  Those were the first words from Rachel Melvin (Chelsea, DOOL).  Soapdom wanted to know how long it took the young Days star to get ready for the big show?  “I just put on the dress.  It took my hairstylist about two hours and my make-up artist only about 30 minutes. But, I feel his work is melting off my face.”  The heat was intense. She’s from Arizona, “And I should be used to this!”  As for Chelsea, she couldn’t give us any “details,” but she did confide this tidbit, someone’s hiding secrets that will ultimately surprise Chelsea.  “We’ll see a shocked, but unusual reaction from Chelsea.”

Soapdom stopped Bradford Anderson (Spinelli, GH) and told him he’s quite a character.  The young actor played along like the quick-witted actor he is, “That’s a lot to live up to.  On the show, I play quite a character, in real life I’m not terribly interesting to tell you the truth.  I’m working on it, though. I’m trying to learn from my character on how to be interesting. My character’s pretty out there so when I get off the set I like to kick back.”

While Soapdom was waiting for more stars to come over and chat, we spotted Kassie De Paiva (Blair, OLTL) adjusting Emmy Nominee, Dan Gauthier’s (ex-Kevin, OLTL) black tie.

“Did you see her make me dance?”  Those were Gauthier’s first words when Soapdom finally caught his attention.   Lurking behind him was, De Paiva, the woman who did the deed.  The night before the Emmy’s, Gauthier and his...

Kassie De Paiva and Danny Gauthier (Blair and ex Kevin, One Life to Live)....wife, were among the fans cheering on De Paiva, Renee Goldsberry (ex-Evangeline, OLTL) and Kathy Brier (Marcie, OLTL) at a rockin’ concert that lasted way into the night.  As De Paiva joined us and sang in his ear, Gauthier continued on with the saga of his plight on stage, “I was so nervous I didn’t even hear what she was saying.”

Then suddenly De Paiva took on the role of interviewer and we just listened in as she talked to her former co-star! Here’s the script:

De Paiva
Are you nervous right now?

(nervously wiping the sweat from his brow)
I’m not right now, but I was earlier.

De Paiva

Yeah, I was!

De Paiva

Well, I was.  I’m not nervous about being nominated.  I’m nervous about if you win. But, I shouldn’t be nervous, because what are the chances?

If you win, you should say, last night I had the dance of my life.

Yeah, right!

De Paiva
You should just enjoy the moment.

Well, of course. Of course, I will.

De Paiva
If I got up there, I’d go, duhhhh!

Don’t say that on camera!

De Paiva
Then I’d get nervous and I’d say jeez!

I’m so hot.  I guess it’s the sun.  It doesn’t matter now.  I feel good.  I’m totally fine and calm right now.
Of course, I’ve had six drinks, that doesn’t hurt.

De Paiva made everyone laugh with her ease and then handed the mic back to Soapdom.  We thanked her for the interview and the two of them moved on down the red carpet.

Dylan Fergus (Noah, Passions) took on the role of weatherman as he moved from reporter to reporter. “It’s so hot out here, it’s like everything goes away. The only thing you’re thinking is I’m meeting people and I’m wearing a jacket, why is that?”

Walt Willey (Jackson, All My Children)The man with the greatest tie on the runway, Walt Willey (Jackson, AMC) knew just how to respond, “It’s my elder statesman tie!”  Soapdom wondered if he’s ready to move on, find a new love interest?  “I don’t think so. I think Erika and Jack are the, pooh! I think any time you can put two people together and they stay together on and off for 18 years, there’s something there that works like crazy.  The fans love it and I love working with Susan.  We’re doing a lot of romantic comedy now, which is a strong suit for her.  I’ve always wanted to be Cary Grant!  I don’t think either one of us needs anybody knew."

Marie Wilson (Meg, ATWT) looked stunning and most of all she was comfortable, which was the optimum word for the evening. Wilson has a surprise for her Meg’s fans, “She gets a bit of a shock and that’s all I can say.”  But Soapdom wanted more.  “Okay, it comes from both Frank and Paul.”

Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio, OLTL), who looked incredibly dapper in his tux, took a moment to introduce us to his gorgeous wife, Sheri Saum (ex-Keri, OLTL).  One of the most smashing couples on the red carpet, without a doubt! De los Reyes, a low-key guy, was extremely happy about his show’s nomination.  “It’s not often One Life to Live gets nominated. I think they’ve...

...done a really wonderful job.” And that rotator cuff that’s plagued him for so long is much better. “I’m back!”

One Life has got a new head writer, Ron Carlivati, and de los Reyes isn’t sure where the road will lead, story-wise.  “Ron’s been with the show a long time and has lots of experience and we all have a lot of confidence in his ability to take the show to the next step.  We’re supportive and behind him all the way and we’re looking forward to playing out whatever he writes for us.”

“I’ve got three generations, here. Junior, the third and the fourth!”  That’s what Windsor Harmon (Thorne, B&B) proudly told Soapdom as he introduced us to his father, Windsor Harmon, Jr. and his son, the latest edition, Windsor Harmon, IV.  His father jokingly wondered why he started all of this?  As for Windsor’s son, he was having a ball. “A little overwhelmed, but having a good time.” And, off they went, to grapple with the crowds heading into the Kodak Theatre.

Heidi Mueller and Emily Harper (Kay and Fancy, Passions)September 17th is the day Passions premieres on DirecTV’s Channel 101, but the cast and crew start shooting in August. Heidi Mueller (Kay, Passions) and Emily Harper (Fancy, Passions) told Soapdom that everyone’s jazzed about the move. Mueller, a long time vet of the show, can’t wait. “It’s uncharted waters so we’re not sure what to expect, but DirecTV is really going to promote it and a lot of us are coming back, so it should be fun.”

Liza Huber (Gwen, Passions)Susan Lucci’s (Erika, AMC) daughter, Liza Huber (Gwen, Passions) is a real chip off the block.  The grace and ease she possessed meeting and greeting the press proved, unequivocally, that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.  With Gwen returning to Harmony, she shared a few secrets about what’s to happen next for her character.  “Gwen is hitting the canvas again. Ethan and Gwen have broken up.  She has a new man in her life. I’m so excited because it’s completely different.”  Huber’s thrilled to be part of this new venture with DirecTV, “Everyone there has been great to us. We’re very excited to keep going. We love the show!”

Galen Gering (Luis, Passions)Galen Gering (Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald, Passions) introduced himself to Soapdom in a most unusual manner, “I play the morally upstanding, illustrious character, Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald!” Of course we know who he is, but he jokingly went on, “I’m so good looking in person, TV doesn’t do me justice.”  The more serious side of this fun-loving actor kicked in when we asked him about the move to DirecTV, “It’s fantastic that so many people are still employed, especially in today’s economy.  So, thank you DirecTV.”

Adrienne Franz (Amber, Young and the Restless)Adrienne Frantz (Amber, Y&R, B&B) is really wild about her wild crazy alter ego. She dropped a small bit of news in our laps, “This large bag of money is going to destroy three people’s lives!”  Will she be one of them?  “I may be!”

Renee Goldsberry (ex Evangeline, One Life to Live)A very nervous nominee, Renee Goldsberry (ex-Evangeline, OLTL), admitted she had no idea what she would say if her name is in the envelope.  But she was having too much fun to worry about anything, just enjoying the moment.  As for what’s next?  “It’s up to God!”   Soapdom relayed some of the lovely things her former dressing roommate, Kassie De Paiva (Blair, OLTL), said about her and Renee returned in kind, “I aspire one day to grow up to be like Kassie De Paiva.  She’s one of my best friends in the world. She truly blesses me every single day.” Goldsberry’s date was her designer, C.D. Greene, and the dress was fit for a queen.  She’s both his friend and his muse.

Daniel Goddard (Cane, Young and the Restless)Daniel Goddard (Cane, Y&R) was one of the last stars to walk down the red carpet. And, it was worth the wait!  In addition to his wonderful accent, Goddard had a few things to say about his story line, “I think our chemistry plays well on screen.  I think that the ups and downs of Cane and Amber are fantastic and we’ll see where it’s going, some good conflict, and some good drama.  It’ll be pure entertainment.” He’s having a ball on the show and believes any success he’s had comes from the good solid advice he’s gotten from two Y&R heavyweights, Eric Braeden (Victor) and Peter Bergman (Jack).  They’ve helped him understand how to become an essential part of the show.

The first time Soapdom met Leven Rambin (Lily/Ava, AMC) she was brand new to daytime and a young teenager.  As she waltzed down the red carpet, the girl had blossomed into a gracious young woman.  Her life on the show has changed considerably and she’s over the moon about now playing a dual role on the show.  “It’s a lot of work and I get to spread my acting chops and challenge myself quite a bit.” The part of Ava was a complete surprise to her.  She thinks the show wanted another opportunity for her, as well as another mountain for Lily to climb.  More important, it’s way to pair with her Jeff Branson, again.

When Soapdom told Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R) how many people admire her work, she was in a word, “Verklempt!”  To her it was better than winning an Emmy. She wanted to know who Christian LeBlanc (Michael, Y&R) liked.  For him it was almost impossible to name just one person. Nominated five times and the winner for Lead Actor in 2005, LeBlanc brought along his sister and a good friend from Louisiana.  New Orleans is his home and he’s made...

Michael Easton (John, One Life to Live)...repeated trips to help re-build his own house, as well as his beloved city.  He wears a blue ribbon as a constant reminder of what still needs to be done. “So many people in daytime are helping out; Ellen Wheeler and the Guiding Light people are helping to build houses in Biloxi; All My Children did the Mardi Gras Ball theme; Michelle Stafford has come down with me to the Bayou to raise money.”  He’s really thrilled that his character’s father is from New Orleans.  It’s just one more way to increase awareness.

Michael Easton (John, OLTL) rarely stops to talk to anyone, but he made time for Soapdom, which was a very welcome surprise.  Like the rest of us he has no idea where the story’s going, “We just switched our head writer so it’s all up in the air.”

One of the handsomest men in daytime, Kristoff St. John (Neil, Y&R) was rushing to get inside, but he stopped for a moment and told us that Neil might get involved with Karen, the campaign manager, possibly --- but stopped when he realized he can’t give away story line.  And, then he was gone!

Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth, GH) designed her gown and her Mom stitched it up.  It was a knockout!  She’s a little far behind on her scripts and honestly didn’t know what was coming up. Before we could ask her anything else, the production crew whisked her off to the auditorium where the show was about to start.

And, that’s where we finally end, at the beginning.  The gowns were smashing, the tuxes too cool.  The sun was falling behind the Kodak Theatre, the temperature dropped and it was time, at long last, to open the envelopes!
