PBS Arts Fall Festival kicks off October 14 with a classic Gilbert and Sullivan romp. Guthrie Theater’s “H.M.S. Pinafore” leads the nine-part series that includes Pearl Jam, Bill T. Jones and six more dance, music and opera performances.
Starring in “H.M.S. Pinafore” is none other than Days of our Lives' Heather Lindell (ex Jan). She plays the character of Josephine.
The play is introduced by Rainn Wilson (NBC's The Office) and is directed by Joe Dowling, with choreography and musical staging by David Bolger...
For those who may not know, Heather Lindell had an unusual introduction to daytime television; the day she had to perform her final exam scene to receive her BA in theater from the School of Theater, Film and Television at UCLA, she had to run across town to screen test for Days of Our Lives. Although late, she nailed the role and began taping the next day! Lindell won the Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Young Actress for her portrayal of the conniving Jam Spears.
Lindell's feature film debut was in Getting There, the Olsen twin’s starrer, in which she played the twins' best friend. Her Broadway debut and childhood dream came true happened when she was cast in the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Hairspray. Heather was back on Broadway this year in the 2010 Tony Award winning Revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES
starring as ANNE opposite Harvey Fierstein.
Lindell says that "before I even knew what a performer was, I was one! I started singing before I could formulate sentences and even playing make-believe with my dolls.”
Lindell was born and raised in Los Angeles and has two older sisters. She trained at the Ray Bolger Musical Theater program at UCLA, incorporating the Stanislavsky and Meisner techniques; she also studied classical voice and ballet.
Of Lindell's performance in “H.M.S. Pinafore” the critics are raving:
One import, Heather Lindell (last seen on Broadway in La Cage aux Folles) is fetching as Josephine, the captain's daughter, and she has ample opportunity to show off her impressive pipes.

Heather Lindell, in the role of Josephine, had breathtaking vocals - several of her song finales seemed to ring out through the theater long after the song had finished.

The acting is terrific, of course (this is the Guthrie). Ditto the singing; the wonderful G&S music comes through with resounding intensity. As the lovers Heather Lindell and Robb McKindles sing gorgeously and their scenes together are very funny.
