To borrow from the literary great Charles Dickens: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. This is the sentiment that will be most shared by regular viewers of General Hospital as it moves into November sweeps. The show is pulling out all of the stops in the hopes of guaranteeing not only an increase in ratings, but also a thumbs up from its audience, who, in recent weeks, has been put through the wringer what with the Carly Corinthos musical chairs game (FYI: The newest Carly, Laura Wright, formerly of Guiding Light, steps into the role beginning November 4th).
After reveling in the nuptials of Lucky Spencer (Greg Vaughan) and Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst), many of the town's most prominent denizens are placed in a life or death situation when the caravan taking them home faces a head-on collision. It's the worst train wreck to hit anywhere since 1986's Stand By Me - and remember what that speeding locomotive did to Ray Brower!
The drama gets underway beginning on Friday, October 28th, when, after years spent apart, Elizabeth and Lucky finally say "I do" to become the family the duo was meant to become since the time they met back in 1997 and Lucky so tenderly nurtured Miss Webber following a brutal rape. Unfortunately, as in real life, the suddenness of tragedy must occur in order for us to appreciate true joy. And on Thursday, November 3rd, those returning from the Spencers wedding will be forced to learn this fact of life when their train collides with another. Soon, events spiral out of control, and by Friday, November 11th, it is unclear who will walk away from the accident unscathed; the most serious injured include Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), a pregnant Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), Reese Marshall (Kari Wuhrer), and the groom himself, Lucky (Vaughan)!
TVGuide.com spoke with GH head writer Bob Guza and his comments on the upcoming events were as follows: "The big collision is what happens emotionally. We use this crisis to create different couplings. There are some people who should be together and some who should not. Every single person comes out of this collision changed, and not always for the better."
Given Wuhrer's announcement to fans that she will be leaving the show in the near future, it is doubtful that Sonny's (Maurice Benard) latest conquest will be among the survivors. The actress, herself, seems to be handling the firing nicely. Many who attended the "3rd Annual Evening With The Stars" event tell Soapdom that she appeared "in good spirits" and "laughed easily" throughout the night.
As for attorney Alexis Davis, it's likely that she will survive, but one has to question the fate of her unborn child with former lover, Ric (Ric Hearst).
Don't miss a moment of the story because throughout there will be clues that hint to where some of their favorites will be headed with regard to relationships and business.
