I don't head to downtown Detroit often, but this past Friday was an exception. Why would I brave the single digit temperature and the downtown traffic? Because General Hospital's Lisa LoCicero (Olivia) was in town for a fan event.
LoCicero returned to her home state of Michigan for a meet and greet at the North American International Auto Show at Detroit's Cobo Center.
The event was part of Detroit's local ABC station, WXYZ Channel 7's 'Family Day' at the Auto Show.
It was positively frigid in Detroit on Friday. LoCicero, a Michigan native, told me she
didn't remember our winters being quite this cold.LoCicero interacted with the fans and signed autographs for three hours. Fans were promised a Question and Answer session but it didn't happen. Unfortunately, the venue wasn't really set up for a Q&A.
This event was a bit different from others I've attended. It was in the middle of the very loud and crowded Auto Show. Also, LoCicero was seated at a table on a platform up above the crowd. It was difficult (but not impossible) to pose for a picture with the actress.
Several hundred fans were on hand and LoCicero's line was continuously crowded. She took the time to speak with every fan that came through the line. LoCicero also signed photos for fans as she spoke with them.
I have to commend LoCicero for doing such a fine job of interacting with the fans. Since she was seated right next to a live band, it was sometimes difficult to carry on a conversation. But "the show must go on" and LoCicero made it work with a smile.
There's something very warm and inviting about LoCicero. Her presence lit up the room and she spoke with each fan like an old friend.
This was my second time meeting the lovely actress. I feared she wouldn't remember me, but she did. After a warm greeting backstage, LoCicero took a moment to introduce me to her parents who accompanied her to the event.
The stunning actress was kind enough to answer some questions for Soapdom's many General Hospital fans.
So, what's coming up for Olivia? The actress confirmed that Olivia would indeed be a guest at the upcoming wedding of Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Brenda (Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo).
"I don't know anything juicy. The next thing I know I'm doing is being a happy guest at Brenda and Sonny's wedding.... A lot of people are asking if Olivia is going to be upset about that, but I think Olivia is really happy to see Sonny happy," LoCicero said.
Soapdom couldn't help but ask about Olivia's romantic future. Now that Olivia and Johnny (Brandon Barash) are over, is a romance with Dr. Steve Webber (Scott Reeves) in her future?
"I think that's where we're going.... I don't think they want to rush it. I think they want to take it slow because Johnny and Olivia got together so quickly. I think they want to have a nice build and let these people get to know each other....," the actress shared.
LoCicero has much respect for her co-star Reeves.
"Scott is an absolute God send. He literally is an angel.... He's honest to God the nicest person that you're ever going to meet," LoCicero told Soapdom.
Finally, LoCicero said she was "shocked" by the sad news that her co-star Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth) was let go. The actress found out about Herbst's dismissal when another GH co-star texted her the news.
"It could be anyone. If she can go, then anyone could go.... It means that really anyone could go, no matter how big a player you are on the canvas," LoCicero said.
The actress also shared that she hasn't been back to work since the news about Herbst broke.
Although she's plenty busy on GH, LoCicero appeared on an episode of Bones in October. How did she find the experience?
'What a fun show," she enthused. "David Boreanaz was super, super nice. He really was very cordial and sweet – very fun to work with. We had a fun time playing that day." LoCicero shared.
Thanks so much to Lisa LoCicero for taking the time to talk with Soapdom. Be sure and watch for LoCicero weekdays on General Hospital on ABC. Check your local listings for times. For more on LoCicero, visit her official website and follow her on Twitter.
Special thanks to WXYZ Channel 7 for bringing our Michigan girl Lisa LoCicero home. We don't see many soap actors here in Michigan so this was a real treat for the fans.
