Ryan Chiaverini, Chicago talk show host of Windy City Live (ABC 7 1PM) will be participating in the 24th annual Cancer Survivors' Celebration Walk & 5 K in Chicago on Sunday June 4th. (Grant Park) and it will be very personal, as he honors his mother, who lost her battle.
"I lost my mom to cancer several months ago, and this is something I want to do," Chiaverini said. "My mom battled cancer twice. She was doing well and now she was taken from us. I want to honor her memory."
Chiaverini will be forming a team called "Team Edna."
This is about helping make a difference in people's lives of patients with cancer and their families by supporting Chiaverini's team.
"You know, this is so ironic. Several years ago, I lost a brother to suicide and mom came out to Chicago to participate in a fundraiser for suicide and honor his memory, and today I honor her in the exact same location," Chiaverini said wistfully.
Chiaverini was approached by some people and asked if he wanted to participate. "I think at first they thought it may be too soon? But I thought it would be good to do this sooner than later to honor mom. I hope people come from far and wide."
After the event, there will be a picnic to honor all cancer survivors and their supporters All participants are invited. "I want everyone to know that when it comes to cancer, we are all in this together," Chiaverini said.
