Awards to Be Broadcast Live from Las Vegas, Sunday, June 19 On CBS and Hosted by Emmy Award Winner Wayne Brady
Nominations were announced today for THE 38TH ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY® AWARDS, to be broadcast live for the second year in a row from the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Sunday, June 19 (8:00-10:00 PM live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network.
As previously announced, Emmy Award winner Wayne Brady, host of CBS's "Let's Make a Deal," will host the awards. In addition, Pat
Sajak of "Wheel of Fortune" and Alex Trebek of "Jeopardy!" will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards.
"In honoring Pat and Alex, we're honoring not only two of the great game shows throughout the history of television," said Darryl Cohen, Chairman, NATAS, "but two individuals whose talent and personality have given us an additional reason to tune in and watch."
Associated Television International's (ATI) President and Emmy® award-winning producer David McKenzie will serve as executive producer of the broadcast.
"Tune in to the Daytime Emmy broadcast, especially for soap fans because as you know, these soaps are an endangered species," said Jim Romanovich, President Worldwide Media and Entertainment for ATI. "Either support the soaps by supporting events like the Daytime Emmy Awards show, or see them disappear totally. We want to keep the interest level going on these shows so they may find new life elsewhere once their broadcast television run has expired."
That's why ATI is planning some way cool stuff for soap fans during the broadcast. "We will be giving things away to them," Romanovich broke to Soapdom. "Fans will have to tune in to watch. During the broadcast, they will get triva questions they will have to answer."
And the prizes? How about an all expense-paid trip to Universal Orlando, or to Las Vegas? And that's just the beginning.
Romanivich also shared that he Daytime Gives Back segment for the Daytime Emmys this year benefits The Children's Miracle Network.
"It is with great pleasure that the Daytime Emmy® Awards returns to the CBS Network again," said Cohen. "The Daytime Emmy Awards is one of the cornerstones of our business and this year's Las Vegas-based celebration, produced with our broadcast partner, Associated Television International, and hosted by Wayne Brady promises to be an exciting evening of entertainment."
But it is not only the actors and hosts that make daytime great. The Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards gala, which honors the craft behind the many shows that grace the Daytime genre will return to the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles on Friday, June 17th, 2011.
The list below contains only the daytime drama series categories, plus some extras where either daytime programs or stars are key players. We are delighted to note that webseries Gotham and Venice, both produced by former or current soap stars are nominated in the Special Short Form category. Another popular web soap, The Bay, although not nominated, is included in the Daytime Gives Back segment.
