Despite an attempt to spice up the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards with Vegas acts, the awards show broadcast was down 27% in the ratings from last year, when the show aired in the 9 to 11 PM time slot.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Daytime Emmys saw ratings of 5.5 million total viewers, 0.8 rating in the adults 18-49
demographic, down 27 percent.
But over on NBC, the Ms. USA Pageant, where Ms. California won the crown, rose 57 percent compared to last year's telecast garnering its highest ratings since 2005.
So, what happened, soap fans? Why didn't you tune in to see the Daytime Emmy's broadcast? What would have made you tune in? Could the time slot have made the difference? Would you have tuned in if the show aired one hour later?
In an era where soap operas are dropping like flies, a show of faith by the fans for the Daytime Emmy Awards would have worked wonders to show the networks that there is indeed still an audience for soaps and a market for the soap opera industry.
