About ten days ago Soapdom reported that Tristan Rogers (ex Colin, Young and the Restless; ex Robert Scorpio, General Hospital; and currently Lex Martin, The Bay the Series) may have been closing one door being asked to leave Y&R, but another door was about to open.
The veteran actor has more than one project up his sleeve, but for this first one, he has joined forces with Drake Hogestyn (John Black, Days of our Lives) and the two will be mounting a brand new web series for our internet viewing pleasure...
Soapdom ran into Rogers at the Season Two premiere screening for The Bay the Series last week. We only spoke a moment, but Rogers is definitely excited about this new venture and will happily grant us an interview more toward the middle of this month.
"By November 16th, I should know more, " he shared with me. "Give me a call then."
You bet I will.
As you may or may not know, this is not Rogers first flirtation with a web series. A few years ago, he and some other partners attempted to get a show called "Reality Bytes" on the net. For reasons beyond everyone's control, it never quite happened. The experience left such a bad taste in Roger's mouth, he thought he would totally walk away from producing internet series. But with this latest venture, called "Through the Wire," his fire for the net has been rekindled.
Rogers has recently tweeted the following teasers about the new show:
"When your subject matter is Big Oil, drugs, prostitution, and illegal aliens. You gotta show."
"The important thing here is a major balance between story and character. This is not 'your mothers soap.' In fact it isn't a soap at all."
"This will be a Web based series of 30 minutes duration. More than once a week."
"There isn't a soft, fuzzy character in the whole show."
"In Through the Wire I want to split the envelope."
"The Web rewards dark, edgy, quirky, out there. So that's what I'll give it."
For on air talent, Rogers plans on culling from the pool of actors with solid Daytime backgrounds. He intends to cast them in roles soaps would never go near. This in itself is exciting news. Seeing some of our favorite daytime stars in edgy roles has us chomping at the bit.
The series will be set in a fictional town in Arizona near the Mexican border. Rogers and Hogestyn are shooting a promo reel for the series in about a week or so. Once that's in the can, Rogers will be available to speak with Soapdom. By then some of the other particulars will also be more worked out so he will be able to give us more details.
Soon as we talk to him and get the whole scoop, we'll let you know. Stay tuned to www.Soapdom.com for all the latest on this breaking story.
