TWC vs Disney

marissa62

I guess I would have to say that I am a little more than miffed at the politcal rangling going on between TWC and Disney Corporate. The idea of losing ABC and ESPN is a lot to take in. I realize that despite all fan efforts to keep SoapNet afloat, that will probably not happen. Too bad. We have enough Disney channels. But ABC is my favorite network and has all the soaps and other shows I watch. I adore watching "Castle", even in reruns. It is fresh and funny. I like DTWS as well, although the quality of "stars" has gone downhill. I find myself not voting like I used to do as a crazy person during the first few seasons. Also find myself rooting for the professional rather than the star. O'Hurley, Helio and Ono will always be my faves. Hard to top true talent.
They say I have options but dug into that hypothesis yesterday and found that it is not true. My only option is Direct TV and after working for Dish Network, there is no way in the world I will ever have a dish in my yard. Too many hidden fees and service charges. People should really read the fine print before turning to a satellite dish. I know. I've been cussed at up and down because at Dish they didn't have service contracts built into the contract unless you got this one package when they first arrived on the scene. What did that mean? If you needed someone to service your dish, your Dish rep had to contact a subcontractor and try to schedule a time with them. They didn't do any of their own work to personal accounts. Back in 2004, a service charge (parts not included) was $70. Can't imagine what it is now. And let us not forget the weather. If you have a storm, you will not have service or at least not clear service and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. I will say that working for Dish Network taught me a couple valuable lessons.  First, I am very patient when having to call for help with anything. The first person you get is a newbie and they have no power to resolve your problem. It has to be escalated in order for you to really get what you want. So I explain my problem and ask to be escalated to the supervisor. Works well. Also, at Dish we had your account on a computer in front of us and took notes on exactly what you said. So sometimes when the escalation doesn't work, I respectfully ask them to write "hostile customer" on my notes area. That way the next person knows what they are in for. The second thing I learned will be with me forever. I will never, ever take another job for granted. There will never be a worse job in my future and there has never been a worse job in my past. That is how bad Dish Network was to work for and to live under their non-employee friendly rules. Every day I felt like I was hanging on for dear life by my fingernails  on the edge of a cliff, waiting to see if something I said or did would get me fired. I kept getting written up for being too friendly with the customers and taking too much time to help them fix their problem. It was all about the numbers. And I am all about taking care of the customer. Not a good combination.
So I will wait until September 1st to see what will happen to my ABC service. ESPN too as I do watch a lot of football, racing, skating, and other sports.  If only greed wasn't the motivator. I just got my traditional TWC bill raised but if it would cost another $10, I would gladly pay it in order to keep the channels. I think they would find out that a lot of other people in my situation would do the same. We wouldn't be very happy about it, but it is better than losing our beloved channels.
