Days of our Lives is kicking up it's same sex storyline that features the character of Will (Chandler Massey), who has been conflicted about his sexual orientation and finally has made inroads in coming to terms with his sexuality.
On today's episode of Days, Will encounters a tall, dark, handsome stranger named Neil (Jesse Kristofferson) at a party. Sparks fly, and before long, lips lock.
This is the first same sex kiss ever on Days of our Lives, but not the first on daytime drama...
All My Children (which aired it's last episode in September 2011), was the first soap opera to tackle same sex relationships that actually showed the characters in romantic scenes. Eden Reigel played the character of Bianca, who fell in love with Lena (Olga Sosnovska) in 2003.
A few years later, in 2008, As the World Turns, which aired it's last episodes in 2010, created the popular same sex storyline of Luke (Van Hensis) and Noah (Jake Silberman).
And in 2012, Days of our Lives is taking one of it's popular characters down the road of exploring his sexuality.
