Intense on ABC Daytime

Is it me, or is ABC Daytime getting very dramatic, even for daytime drama?  The life and death situations on each of the three ABC daytime soaps have me glued to my seat.

On All My Children, Kendall's life hangs in the balance as her husband and former lover/father of her baby struggle to determine if Kendall's life is more important than that of her unborn child -- Spike.  They think they know what Kendall would want -- for Spike to get the best fighting chance to survive and if that means keeping him safe and sound in Kendall's womb, than that's what they are determined to do.  But their decision could cost them the love of both their lives.

On One Life to Live, Todd Manning was executed!  The show did a rather detailed and graphic representation of what it must be like for a death row inmate and his family as he utters his final words.  Very intense.  And Todd was innocent!  Margaret is alive.  Too bad she doesn't remember anything, although today she did say that the name Dr. Spencer Truman rang a bell.   Not only is Viki at risk of losing her brother, but her grandson, Duke, just lost the battle for his life when his father chose Kelly's operation over Duke's.  Isn't it interesting that Dr. Truman was involved in both storylines?

While on General Hospital, Jason was forced to realize the error of his ways in regard to loving Sam and being with Sam means putting Sam in danger thanks to Sam's new mom, Alexis, that he has torn Sam's heart apart by walking away from her. He thinks he is doing what's best for her, but is he?  Plus, at long last, Maurice Benard (Sonny) is getting his wish. TPTB at GH have written a manic/depressive storyline for him, and pe prepared. He is taking it to the hilt.

So, the question for ABC daytime fans is, are you enjoying all this intensity? Or do you prefer your soaps to be more love, lust and fluff and less substance.

I welcome your comments.
